AToE vs Bostroms' SR Argument vs Gates' Doubly-Even Error-Correcting Codes

<Work in Progress>>>

I like the synergy between these scientific endeavors as a subtle means to explain the universe.

I'll talk about Professor Nick Bostrom's Simulated Reality Argument and Professor S.G. Gates unexpected discovery while studying the boundries of string theory before relating them to Chiren Boumaaza's interconnected theories of consciousness and quantum mechanics.

Simulated Reality

Nick Bostrom is one of our generations most prolific philosophers.  He is a professor at University of Oxford and directs numerous trans-humanist endeavors for the Oxford Martin School.  Among his many areas of interest-which include the fields of nanotechnology, cryogenics, cloning and artificial intelligence-is a small logic based paper he wrote early in his career called, Are You Living in a Computer Simulation?  In this paper he, from a pure logical perspective, proved that it is more likely this universe we live in is a simulated reality being run by some type of ancestor; ancestor referring to an intelligent race of beings in a super-universe containing our universe.  He lists many reasons ancestors would desire to run simulated reality "programs."  His conclusion basically rests on the likelihood of a simulated universe being greater than the likelihood of convergent chemical evolution.

I ask what governs our universe if it is indeed simulated.  There would be processes which we could see involving orders and direction coming from this commanding universe.  This very direction is indeed what Professor S.G Gates of the University of Maryland stumbled upon while researching the super-string theory of mathematics.

Doubly-Even Error-Correcting Codes

Gates basic premise is that he doesn't know what he's found.  And that fear of the unknown comes through in a interview he gave while trying to explain some of his anomalies; this can be heard here.  His original paper can be found here.  And a summarized media article on his work and discoveries here.

The meat of the argument is that while researching super-string theory the good Professor found computer codes within the boundaries of string theory.  A simplified explanation of string theory is that if you can calculate the mathematical properties of physical phenomena you can theoretically extrapolate its interactions with the matter it effects, the matter which is effected by the the primary matter, the secondary matter on tertiary matter, and so on, essentially linking all matter into one exotic dance we call our universe.

The codes the professor found are computer codes first invented by Richard Hamming in 1950.  Basically when one computer sends data to another computer it sends the data on wavelengths.  Computer scientists early on found that inevitably some data is lost in even the simplest of data transmissions.  The ends of the wavelengths are lost from time to time due to electromagnetic interference or poor conduction.  They found for proper data transmission to occur codes or programs were needed to randomly fix this data.  So they invented programs which in a way of speaking threw ones and zeros at incoming codes attempting to fix any errors which might occur.  In essence it was like placing ones and zeros on the sides of a continuously incoming code to try to fix errors.  Without this data correction codes, we wouldn't have the internet or any computer to computer communication.

What Professor Gates found within String Theory itself is a code which resembles  some of the most advanced forms of this basic error correcting code we have today.  In fact, some elements of his discovery are yet to be actually implemented in the fields of computer science today and are still in theoretical stages.  That chill running down your spine is perfectly natural.

The implications could be astounding and far reaching.  If it really is true, then essentially within the basic governance of the universe are phenomena which inherently and intrinsically seek to correct error and transmit information.

Does this universal error correction and and information transmission necessarily equate the reality of a simulated universe?  Not necessarily, but it is still quite intriguing, the mere possibility.

well that was mindblowing

You're forgetting that the universe operates on a fundamental level of sending and receiving information via the four fundamental forces through "messenger particles." Nick Bostrom is mentally circle jerking around a talking and burning bush. You're looking at the picture in the wrong perspective. These "codes" are mathematical structures inherent within the fabric of the universe (if String Theory is correct, BIG IF). We built machines from these laws of which were not perfect and as a consequence "invented/discovered" ways to make them more efficient. However, the universe itself is the most outstandingly efficient creature there is.

Sounds to me like Nick Bostrom watched the matrix a little too many times...

Interesting stuff though :)
