Scientific Research & Self-Development Activism
For people like me it's always funny to see new "theories" and "ideas" about the universe and reality and stuff.
We see all the IMENSE EFFORTS, all these details, all this "knowledge", and so much brainpower invested into understanding reality.
And don't get me wrong, I used to love to think about stuff like that and read books and listent to talks, and talks and talks... about Intellectual Concepts about reality; but slowly I realize how beautiful it is to know the use of the word MAYA!
That's how the Yogis call the "reality" as we perceive it and it means ILLUSION.
Because in the end, after thinking through AAALLLL of that stuff, studying Physics, Chemistry and Biology, reading from Mystics like Kepler and Galileo or Occultists like Isaac Newton, studying principles of societies, cultures and ethnology, after reading all the books from Aristotle over Plato, Nietzsche, Kant, Marx and whatever their names all are..., in the end, ALL YOU KNOW IS: LOTS of YUNK in terms of principles and mechanisms of how MAYA, meaning the ILLUSION comes into existence.
But IN THE END you are STILL confronted with it in your everyday life, and all the knowledge of how it comes to be and how it plays itself out doesn't put you even one step ahead compared to the one who just knows that all "reality" is, is MAYA, the great ILLUSION
Of course it is very nicely to "know" how reality works and it appeals the human MIND and EGO to think and to believe that it "understands" stuff, but from a yogic's perspective that is like going around in the first grade and instead of learning Math, Reading and Writing inside the classroom, going around and with no skills in math, reading and writing, yet spending years and years in examining how the classroom works, how it comes that stuff gets written on this wired board in the front, trying to search for a fundamental pattern in which the pupils' seats in the room are arranged and more and more.
Now, after all this Biocentrism, Quantum Physics, and all these new theories, more than ever, one with a fine mind, one who also takes into account the hundreds and thousands of years in which tales and stories about Mystics and Masters, Yogis and Sufis, Kabbalists and Gnostics, Shamans and Occultists, arose in all parts of human existence (meaning in ALL cultures), this one, with such a fine mind, can start to STOP examining the classroom, and start to learn the lessons because of which the whole classroom came into "existence"(meaning the veil of MAYA which has been pulled upon our conscioussness) in the first place.
It is good to know that form Space to Time, Matter to Emotions, all we experience is ILLUSION or MAYA or "Intellectual Concepts to make sense of reality" (call it however you want), but in the end, we are still confronted with them in our daily lives, and it is NOT the purpose of those, that we use our effort to intellectually try to understand their Nature, but to LEARN THE LESSONS for which they provide the framework!!!
The development of the EGO, meaning concepts about me and you, individuality, the idea of separateness of things, are all the root cause of the suffering and the challenges we face! And also is the root cause, why we have developed concepts like space and time and have identified with those concepts soooo deeply that we now think they are real!
I do not want to outlay the reasoning behind the idea that all suffering is due to the development of EGO, of Separateness and then identifying with that. This you'll have to think though for yourself if you haven't already!
Now this boils down to the one and only reason, that ultimate thing, however ridiculously it may sound, and to which conclusion you will always come if you spend enough time (maybe even a whole lifetime if necessary) contemplating on the meaning of life:
LOVE!
Love is the most essential thing we need to relearn and all and absolutely every one who has or had great insights into life has thought this single lesson.
Love towards all, including Nature will solve ALL problems we face on earth, and later on, will (maybe, thats just tale) dissolve even MAYA itself!
Whatever you do, wherever you are, always focus on love, and you will learn so fast, in such a loving and blissful way!
-------------------------------------------------------------
There never can be any sect or creed around TRUE LOVE from the bottom of your heart!
There never can be any misunderstanding or falsification of LOVE experienced through your very own consciousness!
There never can be any hidden agenda or misuse of the teaching of pure, and absolute honest LOVE!
-------------------------------------------------------------
Love, and love alone will fill your life with so much, so incredible joy and peace, it will dissolve all suffering and all pain, if practiced more and more, intensified more and more, day after day!
Sure you can pick spiritual traditions which provide metaphysical techniques to even intensify and speed up this learning process,
or believe into an all loving God or "Conscious Field" in which direction you can pull and direct your growing love for even more bliss.
BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO!
All we need to do, is to focus on how we can integrate more and more love into our lives, and for sure all of MAYA will vanish, as described in all the very old traditions (of which, the yogic tradition for sure is the oldest, most mature, and fully developed one).
I believe, that if we dissolve all in love, even the causes which shifted the awareness of our consciousness towards this reality we find ourselves in right now, we will rest in the most Natural State of existence, where all individuality is dissolved, the observer, the observation and the observed merge into one, everlasting experience, independent of subject, object and time in a state of SAT(pure existence) - CHIT(pure consciousness) - ANANDA(pure bliss).
This is -at least- what the yogic philosophy says and claims, but it is not a dead philosophy with dogmas, but a living one, where there are generation after generation, people who verify these teachings, and through their teaching, bring about the next generation, and teach them how they can verify it themselves!
So be a Yogi, ohh Man!
How far you go, whether you believe in the principle of "every action has an equal an opposite reaction"(Called the Newton's third law of action-reaction when seen only on Matter-interactions or Karma when seen in it's perfection) or Reincarnation, it all doesn't matter!
You are the one to go on this journey and this experiment!
Always start with love, and see how things play out!
I Love You!

Permalink Reply by Hunter Swart on August 8, 2012 at 7:18am Good advice Arjuna, appreciation of awareness is often over-looked (personally).
Over-thinking, and distinguishing 'this from that' and 'me from not me' results in an apparently consistent ego, and a schizophrenic society awash with anxieties [fears relating to survival and safety]. Much of our dysfunctional nature could be alleviated, in my opinion, if we learn to appreciate the fact that all of life coincides: everything functions cohesively.
Current experience (of being distinct and individual bodies, separated in a web of space-time) is an experiment, and like all experiments, there is an inherent purpose. Namely answering questions akin to: what is it like to experience matter? What is it like to have a sensation of ending? What if there were something that wasn't? The results of this seemingly endless experiment is deciphered by our consciousness, mainly in the form of emotions and sensations: pain. We are having this experience to learn what it is like to experience the absence of love. I think our interpretation of the reality came about from intense curiosity and ingenuity, in that we desired to sense being apart.
I concur with the assertion that our reality is illusory, and that everything is caused. Yet, aside from compassion for all life everywhere (which is a feeling more than a thought), there is a mental component in that even if we accept that our reality is definitively paradoxical there has to be a manner in which it operates. Are there laws which constitute our universe?
Much of Buddhist ontology revolves around the conception that, like light, thought is not continuous, but comes in 'discrete bursts of energy', or thought-quanta, called dharmas. I think that western philosophy will ultimately come to the same conclusion as Yogis and ancient teachers of the orient, except from a diametrically opposed perspective: the scientific outlook seeks objective truth [think Plato's Theory of Forms] and so we will discover the truth from the vantage point of technology and physics.
Thank you for the friendly reminder, btw ( I love you too =] ).

Yeah, but you then have the problem of sanity/insanity. If you unleash the power of conscious life, it doesn't necessarily just improve. Take my word for it...
"Current experience (of being distinct and individual bodies, separated in a web of space-time) is an experiment, and like all experiments, there is an inherent purpose."
It's the result of evolution, on one level of attribution. But that doesn't mean anything in itself. Bananas growing in abundance doesn't mean a god shaped them for our hands. It means, "evolution baby!" and it may also mean this is some human's experiement, but that is presuming a whole load of suspiciously human things i.e. a 'god' of the universe also has human wants/needs for simulating things... (seems pretty stupid to even suggest we as humans, on a short cross-section-segment of the history of planet life that is yet to unfold, are special enough to be the same as the 'god' [and again this points to be a very human 'need' in psychology maybe, being pretty much tied with similar religious notions, which suggests a human-pathological behaviour to me]; for example, AI already exists in military use which ISN'T conscious life separated between minds) .. and if such a conscious entity did simulate universes with conscious intentions.. then I guess life wouldn't be so boring.
Permalink Reply by Sorlaize on August 8, 2012 at 10:01am The world isn't that simple. The world doesn't just revolve around humans, and this is why such theories of study, of the nature of reality, philosophies, are important... to discover a way to live. To understand life from different perspectives, beyond human consciousness. Thinking that the past carries infinite wisdom is a common theme in the human realm of thought.. but it's not truthful in a universal frame of reference.
I don't think it's fair to make *any* major judgement about existence; such as saying that your philosophy has already found a great fundamental secret of life that makes everything else worthless, and that people should live by this general rule...because, any general rule is restrictive. I think there is truly no substitute for self-exploration..
I guess a better question is, what level of self-development does the average person need... but again, that plays the game of restricting all life knowledge by adapting it to current society !
"..doesn't put you even one step ahead compared to the one who just knows that all "reality" is, is MAYA, the great ILLUSION."
It's doing a damn great job of dealing with life for me !
Nothing is 'just' something.
Sure, some people will be forever slave to finding out the universe's secrets. But quality of life is never so straightforward anyway.
"All we need to do, is to focus on how we can integrate more and more love into our lives."
Well, if you are talking about society's problems, we are very far from loving each other. There is no enemy of humanity on the planet or in known space, and yet, we fight amongst ourselves, we are destroying the planet as far as it can sustain human life, and we are now polluting the planet with radiation poisoning. We couldn't be further, right now. ...great, fundamental changes are needed in the thinking of the people, around the world.
It would be nice if we didn't have the addiction problems we have, and could focus on building a sustainable, healthy global society before anything else.
Then again, if we want to take the nihilist / absurdist route.. we could just say, okay, none of this inherently means anything. So. Let whatever happens, happen. Whether it happens to be branded, in human terms, as love or not. Maybe human actions have no colour, in that sense.
Permalink Reply by Arjuna aka sdsad on August 16, 2012 at 8:00pm I can see that humanity is VERY FAR away from our true source.
And it will take A LOT of years until we realize that love is the way to go on a global scale!
But I am talking to people here who strive for self-development!
So let me tell you from my experience:
Love is the greatest tool for self-dev, and right after it comes meditation ;)
Be the change you wanna see in the world!

Permalink Reply by Marko Bilić on August 8, 2012 at 2:55pm Well in the past there were only the teachings of faith and spirit to guide people and show them the true nature of reality. Shamans, mystics, masters, they were the ones who shaped the reality of people, because they knew through their own experiences the "other" side of our minds.
But as our society changed and the whole system shifted, primarily with the advent of technology, we became more focused on the material things;on logic, science, mathematics to explain our world and our very existence. This has caused us to move away from the concepts of the old teachings and ways that worked for people thousands of years back.
I've studied both "ways" if you can call them like that, read, talked, listened about them for years now, and while I prefer the scientific approach, it's in no way perfect, and does not have all the answers.
And the more I get to know about these subjects, the more I'm aware that they are actually describing the same thing, but in different ways. Just look at quantum physics, some stuff in there that would have been considered pseudo-science a while back, but now is actually getting explored and "defined".
When spirituality and science come together, I think only then will we make true progress.

+1 .. this is basically where my head is at these days. It's also why I was originally attracted by Athene's Theory of Everything. As Reese said in the documentary, what they proposed in it has many
"...philosophical repercussions pertaining to life, death and the origins of the universe."
And, Yes... I still think that he and Chiren are 'onto something' with all of it. *eg* :-D

Nice, that you know this experience since talking with people who have not have had this, is like discussing the Mozart 5 symphony with a deaf person!
They just don't know how love can bliss away all other feelings!
And love is, as you describe, the force which JOINS or "yoges"(since yoga means Union)!
It makes us want to JOIN, to MERGE, to entirely lose all individuality to become COMPLETELY ONE!
How to do this with a partner, and how to archive this state which goes far beyond physical union during sex is described in the ancient texts of TantraYoga, but this is not the purpose of (Tantra)Yoga, because Yoga aims to archive COMPLETE UNION with the one without a second, the one of whom all is made, the eternal and ever patient lover of all, independent of age, name and fame, color, vice or virtue!
God is Love, and he is our source and goal, so only because we wanted to be individual, because we wanted to fight, hate, enslave and abuse, we descended further and further from this state of complete oneness to experience creation and separation!
All your questions, I can not answer, since I know it only theoretically and that is NOT the foundation on which one should start teaching!
But soon (maybe a few weeks) I can forward to you a 3.5GB copy of the website from a great yogic master who stopped teaching by now, but left his life work(this website) for the remainder of humanity who want to stop hating, stop judging, stop envying to start LOVING again!
