So whats up people?

I've recently watched one of Athene's new videos.

In the video he talked about his past. How he started gaming, and stuff like that.

In the end of the video, he talked about poker and the money, but also his drive.

What he said about his drive, was something like this:

"I put things in a bigger context, I wanna change the world. I want to contribute to a better world."

Really inspirational actually, I took that to heart. I really began thinking.

I was so touched. I thought that, if I ever wanted to change the world, that would be the best reason, the real drive! I needed to share my thoughts, so I spoke with my dad and a couple of friends.

Their conclusion was that, that isn't the way the world works. That it is hard to change the world, alone.

They don't refuse the idea. But they say that if a person wanted to change something they, would need a couple of things. Like power, and money. We spoke and I really began thinking, if it is possible to change the world. If you have the money and power, then of course you can help some people, but how much can you really help, and would it be a real difference? Some of the arguments was that the world is controlled by greed and money. That's the reason why we don't help each other, because we rather save the money for ourselves instead of helping someone who really needs it. Maybe the world, don't want to change?

Some of my current thoughts now is that, if the world really want change, they would probably seek it much more. Maybe the important people with power, don't seek change, or maybe it's just me?

Please let me know what you think: Is it possible to change the world? - And is it possible to change the world by yourself? By your own will and drive?

I had a busy day yesterday and I almost missed this.  Sorry about that, Alex.

Good post, man; and Yeah, Chiren is very inspirational to a lot of us.  Reese & Dean, too.

Concerning the idea of individual people changing the world, you really need to watch the movie, Gandhi (1982).  My history professor in college made us watch that film when it came out because it is such an accurate and inspirational portrayal of how one person can take a stand for something and accomplish great things in this world.  In fact, many, many historical figures that have effected major changes in this world were not wealthy people who were born into money.  They were just simple people who believed in something strongly enough to take a stand for it and voice their opinions.  So, while having money can help - fame and fortune are not required ingredients for successful activism.  As Chiren pointed out in the video that you linked, he doesn't care a lot about money, {although he did realize that he could reach a lot of people more efficiently by becoming a YouTube celebrity,}  but he believes that self-confidence is the most important quality to have in order to creatively think "outside the box";  because if you are constantly seeking validation and approval from other people, you are never going to change anything - you will just always be doing what you think those other people expect you to do.

While many members seem to have lost sight of it, I-Power was started with these ideas in mind; and the major, driving theme of this site is the idea of empowering our members to become more self-confident so that they, too, can become independent thinkers who will be able to effect change in this world.  The SDA (Self-Development Activism) that is talked about so much around here is not just about going on diets and losing weight; or about exercising to become physically fit; or becoming more confident with the opposite sex - it is about personal empowerment and creative thinking.  This is why I'm personally a bit hard on the trolls that we get around here sometimes - because a lot of trolling behavior is just about putting people down and insulting them, which is the opposite of what we want to accomplish here.  :-)

And the full movie is free to watch here:

I will watch the movie! Thanks :)

I think it is important to be, in certain aspects, like a naïve kid. If you start evaluating the world at large in terms of interest, you're easily discouraged. The fact is, like you mentioned, that one individual does not change the world, he/she only inspires change, and the main thing that accomplishes that is to speak to the child inside people - that inspires them to do what they know is right. People get inspired by individuals who don't let themselves be discouraged by the present situation or past history, and has overcome the mental traps that they themselves have yet to overcome. It is all about setting an example, and that's really the best we can do as individuals.

I strongly believe in the idea of boldly expressing the truth as you see it, without expecting anything in return. It is in everyone's best interest to act as if we are the change. As the I Power slogan says, "I am the revolution"

An additional, relevant quotation: "Boldness has genius, power and magic in it" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Today, i realised 1 human CAN make a change... it's the power of will that determines 'change'. It's the power of will that sets other minds to thinking they CAN  make a 'change' ... I realised the world has already many of those people with enough power of will to inspire us all..but something is holding them back..that something is called 'hate'. HATE has poisoned many people their minds...as you may or not know..Hate leads to suffering.. and hate can show itself in many ways.. in love, in war, in religion, communities, friendship... hate is the reason mankind is not what it should be.. hate is the reason the world is not as it should be...but how do we destroy hate ? I would say with the power of will... but it's not that simple...i wish it was...not even an army of 1 billion people filled with love and happyness could wipe away hatred in this world...most likely because some people are filled with darkness and simply don't want to share love and happyness with the world.. for example...you can say or do what you want but if the person you are trying to enlighten is simply not open for change or other visions, you are destined to fail. The question is... what happened to these dark people they turned theirselves away from a life full of happynes and joy, where every human can live together in peace and harmony..where national borders are wiped away..where helping each other is the standard...i know i'm presenting an impossible world now but it's also the power of dreams that defines the way we treat others and ourselves, if we dare to dream out loud, we could enlighten others to do the same...and sure many will call you a crazy dreamer...but if you believe in the dream you can turn it into reality...in fact a dream is already reality since you lived it in another dimension of your inner-self....now the only thing you're left to do is bring the dream to your outer self... it sounds all way to simple...but i know it's hard... it's unreal.
Actually it's all bullshit...No1 can change the world not even if we try with all of us..all 7 billion together wouldn't even change the world... cause we got nothing in common, we are all different.. to really change the world we need a hard drive planted in our brains and we should all be programmed with the same common objectives....no religion, no politics; no hate..and when the whole world is at peace and every single human being is happy we could not remove those hard-drives cause when we do.... our fucked up human minds would screw it all up again...
CHANGE IS IMPOSSIBLE
REASON: Mankind

El oh El !! :D

what shiz said

CHANGE IS IMPOSSIBLE
REASON: Michael V.

cause we got nothing in common, we are all different..

1. We live on the same planet. Under the same sun and moon.

2. We are the same living beings, aka humans.

3. We breath the same air.

4. Our insides look the same, 1 heart, 2 lungs, 1 liver,.. Our insides are also very similar to mammals. 1 heart, 2 lungs, 1 liver, ..

Do i even have to answer this... ofc we have those kinda things in common...
What i ment to say is// that every human is different from another. no1 thinks the same..
We have 7 Billion unique individuals.

If your saying that it is not possible to change the world, I am very sorry for you. No offense!

It's all about definitions here really. What does it mean to change the world? Do you want to change the way people think? It is possible. Take Jesus for example. He does not need an introduction, and neither any further explanation I guess. At least he changed the world. And he was only human.

When you say world, you mean people. And by changing people, you can change the world. Then as long as you can change people, either one or one billion, you have at least changed their world. And that is how you do it.

So the world is constantly changing because people get new impressions and change their ideas of how things work.

By changing the world, you have to change the people living in it. And changing people is easy, it is only up to you if you want to use it for the better of mankind, or for the better of yourself. It's a pity the mightiest people on earth right now only changes people when it benefits themselves.

My answer is YES! It is absolutely possible to change the world.  Athene just changed your world right?

you don't change any damn thing when u change "someone's world" ... what change did u brought to the world by doing that ?...
Athene didn't change my world... it's still the same... not because they helped stop SOPA & PIPA they changed the world... Not at all !
They helped keeping the internet as it is now.... that whole SOpa & Pipa stuff is something that helps you and me right.. And everyone who is active on the internet.. but for those millions and millions and millions that do not even have water and food to live from... SOPA & PIPA is worthless .. what do they care about that stuff... so no .. Stopping a bill about net censorship doesnt really change the world..
He could make a much more beautifull change.. instead of feeding the rich with NAGA mouses ... Feed the poor with foodsupplies.
There is not 1 human on earth that could change the whole world...U
unless you could find the perfect human for us ? .. i guess you should talk to god for that one...
BTW jesus was only human.. but the son of god ... is not just any human... ofcourse he changed the world for the ones who believed him... for the rest the world was the same as before christ...
So i don't get your theory.. 'even 1 or 1 billion' .... So if you change 1 man his way of thinking.. what is already pretty hard .. especially when u keep in mind that not everyone is as open-minded as the people on i-power.. and if it's not in their interest they most likely will not even be listening Except for the ones that care for the world..
So you changed 1 mans way of thinking and you changed HIS world.. now you changed the world.. Now all Hate and all Bad stuff has dissapeared ?.... What the hell are you gonna change in that man his mind that's gonna give a trigger effect to 1 billion .... I don't believe in that shit.. Changing 1 man is possible .. Changing 1 Billion for the same goal is impossible....
It's simple.. you can't change the freakin world ..no1 can....Cause not everyone agrees with each other.. and as long as you have people that oppose your change.. coalitions will be created .. So

 fuck this whole change theory...

You based yourself on the athenestory now.. Saying he changed our worlds... no he helped keep The INTERNET the same as it was. nothing changed to my world. and nothing changed to your world.

Okei. Let me be clearer then. When he says he wants to change the world, he says that he wants to change the people living in it. I presume he doesn't want to change the mountains, or the seas or cities or whatever. And it is 100% possible to change the way people think. And if you can change how one human think, you can also change how a billion people think.

I didn't say Athene changed your world, I was mainly talking to the TS.

But. YOU as a thinking human is only a product of other peoples influence and impact in your life. For example; If you were born in your neighbor city, you would not have the same ideas and thoughts on things, because all your ideas and beliefs is simply a product of other peoples influences on you.

That means: Even how tough you seem, in one or more situations in your life someone did something that had impact on you as a human being!
