Scientific Research & Self-Development Activism
So whats up people?
I've recently watched one of Athene's new videos.
In the video he talked about his past. How he started gaming, and stuff like that.
In the end of the video, he talked about poker and the money, but also his drive.
What he said about his drive, was something like this:
"I put things in a bigger context, I wanna change the world. I want to contribute to a better world."
Really inspirational actually, I took that to heart. I really began thinking.
I was so touched. I thought that, if I ever wanted to change the world, that would be the best reason, the real drive! I needed to share my thoughts, so I spoke with my dad and a couple of friends.
Their conclusion was that, that isn't the way the world works. That it is hard to change the world, alone.
They don't refuse the idea. But they say that if a person wanted to change something they, would need a couple of things. Like power, and money. We spoke and I really began thinking, if it is possible to change the world. If you have the money and power, then of course you can help some people, but how much can you really help, and would it be a real difference? Some of the arguments was that the world is controlled by greed and money. That's the reason why we don't help each other, because we rather save the money for ourselves instead of helping someone who really needs it. Maybe the world, don't want to change?
Some of my current thoughts now is that, if the world really want change, they would probably seek it much more. Maybe the important people with power, don't seek change, or maybe it's just me?
Please let me know what you think: Is it possible to change the world? - And is it possible to change the world by yourself? By your own will and drive?

Richard Branson and Elon Musk, today pioneers in private exploration of space could be considered to be world-changers in the making, but they haven't changed the entire world yet, though they have made their contributions and ripple effects through not only space tech, but also through other ventures they have.
I would argue that yes, innovation may change the world, and it's easier through technology and business than through politics and talks. Walking is always more effective than talking. However talking is good too.
Permalink Reply by Akis on February 4, 2012 at 10:38am Its exactly as u said u need money and power. The thing is that most of the people who have those they are either corrupt or want more of those two things, more and more and more so they will live a super comfortable life without needing to lift a finger to do nothing by themselves its ridiculous.Guys like Athene make the difference for us the common people and want people to contribute more to community and be united as gamers and us people who care about whats happening to our world
Permalink Reply by The Berns on February 6, 2012 at 12:09am People also tend to only recognise bad stuff and bad people. There are in fact quite a few people out there with a huge load of money, and the will to help others.
Bill Gates for Example. A huge part of his wealth goes into charity and stuff.
Just, to point that out a little more ;) People with money aren't always corrupt. We just recognise the corrupt ones way more.
