Wow!  Great find Sorlaize!

Looks like the first video in a coming series by the Zeitgeist Movement people.  They've set up a new YouTube channel for the videos.  Culture in Decline.  And I recommend that everyone scoot over there and subscribe to it.

I'm aware that some of the things Peter Joseph has proposed over the last several years are very controversial, especially some of the stuff from his first film, but the more I have learned about him, the more I have come to admire and respect the man.  I even added him to my list of Inspirational people on Facebook recently, along with Reese.  :-)

Got them both right up there with Gandhi.  lol

One thing I really love about Peter is that he thinks "outside the box".  Like in this video, how he questioned the way we are all so used to doing things in politics and asked the question, "Why do we still have a President?"  Which is a very good question when you think about it.  Why do we still grant one person so much authority and power as if he were a king or something?  Why have we continued thinking in Feudalistic terms?

I only know the first Zeitgeist-movie; and there they were clearly lying to put up their arguments. And as far as I know they teamed up with this weird "future-scientist", who believes that people will live under the water and that cities should be build uniformily. I do disagree with that. Thus I will watch this (now) with deep distrust, and hopefully be surprised.

K. Was too focused on America, so I will not say anything about it.

lol Dan... yeah, that first Zeitgeist movie turned a lot of intellectual people off, including myself, by going into so many conspiracy theories like it did and stretching the truth on things.  My attitude was much the same as yours is now after I saw it; and it was very difficult for me to feel motivated to watch anything else that Peter produced after that.  I'm not sure now whether that was a mistake on his part to go over-board & sensationalize everything like he did, or not.  I mean, even though he made those errors, the film did draw a lot of attention because of them being so controversial, and it was that controversy that attracted him an audience and a following.  :-)

The weird future scientist guy (lol) that you're thinking of is Jacque Fresco, the founder of The Venus Project; and although Peter Joseph still believes in and supports many of Jacque's ideas and visions, the two had a pretty serious "falling out" earlier this year, and are no longer working together. Ironically, the disagreement that they had was mostly about money - which is something that both of them would eventually like to see abolished.  lol

Anyway, I encourage you to give Peter Joseph another chance, like I did.  I don't think you'll be disappointed.  He is doing some really good stuff these days.

Jacque Fresco on the other hand,.. I think he might be starting to lose his mind.  :-)

{insert picture of a "weird future science guy" - lmao}

there's some really great points in the video, like the fact most people aren't thinking past the 2-party system. It's worrying. And it makes me realize the reality is that everyone needs to be an activist, basically, for a chance of human survival, long-term.

“One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.”
― Carl Sagan, The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark

and yeah, it strikes me that a small government has no hope of being ahead of society. We are beginning to see that with current trends.. trolls causing the Internet to need to be policed somewhat.. governments incredibly riled with... not much more than the power of information to be spread freely...

not to mention all the real-world issues of the planet, which we don't think about unless prompted. What kind of a society is that? How could we even begin to think of independence from a government, if we ourselves, as humans, are so unable to consider all these things at the same time [and therefore actually function, carrying a burden of great knowledge/wisdom]? And so, how is it even fair to criticize whatever system happens to have the world spinning at the moment, no matter how 'bad' it may be?

One example- how we make efforts to control pollution ourselves, but are not outspoken enough to demand change, even though we all have a sense that it is needed for the planet, when we have considered it seriously.

“The mistake you make, don't you see,is in thinking one can live in a corrupt society without being corrupt oneself. After all, what do you achieve by refusing to make money? You're trying to behave as though one could stand right outside our economic system. But one can't. One's got to change the system, or one changes nothing. One can't put things right in a hole-and-corner way, if you take my meaning.”
― George Orwell, Keep the Aspidistra Flying

Just to clarify some things as I know a lot of people from TZM (like the ones who run the site and stuff) would love to point out. Some of which you may already be aware of Shiz :)

Peter Joseph is no longer working for the Zeitgeist Movement, this project is being promoted by TZM, but is his own project.

The first Zeitgeist film by Peter Joseph is not advocated or recognised by the Zeitgeist Movement.

This project, although being promoted by the Zeitgeist Movement, doesn't have anything to do with the Zeitgeist Movement, which is a sustainability advocacy group that's only aim is to help spread awareness about how the current socioeconomic paradigm is not sustainable and if it continues for too much longer, we will pass the point of no return and eventually "civilisation", or whatever you define our global society of humanity as, will collapse. The Zeitgeist Movement doesn't dabble in politics or religious debates or anything like that.

Also, although a hell of a lot of people aren't aware of this, they don't only advocate a resource based economy, even if most agree it is seen as the best solution to the problems that humanity faces.

Just commenting so others know :)

If you're interested in TZM, I'd recommend checking out the final film in Peter Joseph's Zeitgeist film series "Zeitgeist: Moving Forward" :)

It's insane to think how inactive we are as citizens of this nation.  Think we need a reallllll nice reality check.

Plutocracy... jus sayin.  :-D

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plutocracy

I think one central point is that the structure of the world today doesn't actually serve the personal needs of even the rich all too well.. think about if we could get together and solve some of the greatest problems of the human condition, like loneliness. Except we can't, because in 2012 we aren't allowed to have our own time to think [full time jobs which people aren't interested in doing], and we aren't allowed to freely move from country to country to discuss ideas or live as we would prefer, while our nations are locked in fighting each other.

thanks, great video

Nice video, Tom.  Relevant indeed.
