Many people assume that there is something similar to a sober state of mind. That this state should be the opposite of a dunked state. Follow my reasoning and you will understand why it really can not be the case. Our brains is an epic huge amount of neurons with chemical and electrical synapses. It is the level of neurotransmitters in your brain that effect what state you are in. Now it doesn't matter if we take a drug like alcohol or in other ways make us change the neurotransmitters (like an increase of dopamine or serotonin), the effect will be the same either way.
This means that the myth of some sort of sober state is dead. Anyone want to challenge me on this?

So, for example, while caffeine is a drug and drinking a cup of coffee may "perk you up" for a while an increase your level of alertness, it is not going to impair your ability to function normally, so it is not considered to be a dangerous substance. Alcohol, hallucinogens, and other "drugs" can and will impair normal thinking and functioning, however, and are therefore commonly classified as either illegal, or "controlled" substances. My personal opinion on the matter is that we human beings have a hard enough time thinking rationally as it is, so we don't need any "help" making matters worse than they already are. lol
Permalink Reply by Zacharie on January 15, 2012 at 12:35pm Look! Your consciousness IS the effect on being high and low on neurotransmittors. So missuse then amounts to using somthing in such a manner that it have destructive effects in behavior. I don't know why specific mental states are bad if they dont have destructive behavior as an result. I am not sayin that we should not try to avoid the damage drugs have.
My point is that in terms of policy I am convinced that harm reduction is better way of dealing with this. We have to realize that we don't live in an ideal world where we as a state have the power to win an war on drugs. As an ethical principle therefore I think that reducing the harm that drugs have on humans is the correct path. (This went a bit off topic) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harm_reduction

When I don't have my red-bulls (3-5 a day) on my days off, I tend to become irritated, a little depressed and energy-less. It's all in my head, because I chose red-bull to get me started (instead of weed). So following this theory (concluded out of my real life experiences), if I don't have red-bull, I become the opposite of who I want to be.
I know many people who also become irritated after not drinking there coffee in the morning.
It's probably also in there heads. So the question is, do we really need this extra drive? Or can go without coffee, without feeling like we need something more? I think definitely.
We can either replace our routines with other healthier things like water. If we just believe that water gives us power, (which it actually does, without it we're dead). Another routine could be being social, getting sunlight, meditating or breathing exercises (which gives the feeling of being light-headed). Without air and sunlight, we'd also be dead.
Permalink Reply by maikel de haar on January 15, 2012 at 6:54pm All people are on drugs everyday and this is a fact that is scientificly proven to be true.
When we sleep we produce DMT wich is the same substance that people smoke/eat that makes you trip.
Allmost every plant, animal produce this substance. And sober is just an illusion a made up word.
Where do we draw the line. Is weed just a plant, a drug or a medicine?
I dont get the nonsense of making plants, mushrooms ,wichs grow in nature for millenia illegal.
