There is a small percentage of people who suffer from clinical / physiological depression. If someone in your close family suffers from this, then it could be an indication. In such instances, it's best to go for medical consultation.
Seems like you're suffering from apathy. I would recommend picking up a hobby (a healthy one) to dedicate yourself to. If you're mind isn't focused on anything it tends to wander and you can end up having those feelings you described. So if you have no constructive output at all I would recommend finding a way to do so. Give it a try. You will feel mentally rewarded and this will help improve your energy and spirit.
What are your current hobbies?
Hey Carl, (im sorry if someone has posted this as a reply already) i was bored of life but have you ever watched the movie "Yes Man" i saw it and decided to give it a try just for fun.well its a simple concept of Saying "Yes" rather than "no" when an opportunity arises, EG: your friend asks you if you want to go to the mall with him, you probably think "eh i dunno sounds boring" and probably say no"....now if you say "no" what will happen?, you will stay home and probably do nothing, but if you say "Yes" you end up going with him, you might meet a girl/guy, and end up getting into a relationship which could change your lifestyle around, its not to complicated, and yes i stole the idea from a movie:) but try it, its made me happy most of the time:)
Keeping it short:

Happiness derives from 4 things
-Community (friends, family, partners)
-Competence (skills, abilities, knowledge)
-Autonomy (freedom, independence)
-Spirituality (a sense of meaning and purpose; a sense of self and of a relationship with 'that which is greater than self) (doesn't have to be a religion!)

So if you are depressed fulfill these needs.

I would suggest starting by finding your purpose in life.

My purpose in life is progressing humanity to something better than what we are as a society. ;-)

I used to be depressed when I was about your age, nothing serious, went on about 2 years. I think its very much age related and gets better over time. But untill you get older I'd reccomend you get a time consuming SOCIAL hobby, like some team sport or whatever you're interested in. For me it was Warhammer figurines, I think they're a great anti depressant since they're incredibly time consuming and you get instant work satisfaction and you get to hang out with friends that are interested in the same things and play with your figurines. If you dont have friends that play warhammer thats totaly fine, there's a warhammer shop in every major city and every once per week you can bring your figurines there and play against total strangers, a GREAT way to meet new likeminded people, several of my greatest friends i've met through warhammer!
The Peaceful Warrior.
i recommand it to everybody!!! D:br /> but yeah you'll look at life with a big smile.
Ive given advice to another who ws in your situation and ill tell you what told him.

I know everyone is telling you about mental changes you can work to achieve, but i know its really hard. People may tell you generic lines like "You just have to believe in yourself" and things like that, but i know overcoming the mental mountain isnt something that cant be accomplished in a day. Its a gradual thing.

BUT, there are plenty of physical changes you can make in your day-to-day routine will almost double your affectiveness in overcoming depression, and supplement your efforts with the mental battle youre going through.

For one, exercise. Whether this be a 5 minute walk you take everyday, or mappng out an entire workout routine. This works on several levels: it gives you a goal, a sense of purpose and aim, also as you may well know, excersise releases endorphines into your body, making you "feel good". Ever heard of a runners high? My advice would be start out slow, so as not to get burnt out early.
Step two, switch up your eating habits. The correct diet can do wonders in balancing the hormones in ones body, as well as promoting good health. Do some research and find food that boost Seratonin levels, this will help regulate your mood, rid your body of toxins, etc.

All of this combined will help out ALOT. just give it a try, and i hope my advice will help you.
I am more than willing to talk with you further, even to the extent ill give you my number to call me :D theres plenty more i have to say on the topic, but i dont want to ramble lol, so ill cut it off here. But message me, Carl if youd like to hear more from me.
Well, the first step is to learn as much about yourself as possible. Start identifying the things that you feel most often, and then write them down as you feel those things. Keep a little notebook and a pen with you, and just jot down the gist of what you happen to be feeling moment to moment.

After a week or so, you should have a pretty accurate picture of your emotional ups and downs. If you see a pattern, or a low of downs, I would see a counselor and tell them what you are experiencing, and they can help you identify the what and the why behind it.

It doesn't need to be anything drastic, but you should have guidance counselors at your school that you can speak to. They are not PHDs, but they can help you get a better understanding of what is going on, and if it is school related, then they can help you get through it.

Writing down what you like about your life is a positive idea, but it doesn't really do anything to identify the what and why behind your feelings.

When I was in high school, I stopped caring about a lot of things, and my parents had me seeing a psychologist, having several meetings with school counselors, ect. I wasn't on drugs, and I wasn't suicidal, but my life during those years was a constant struggle just to be happy.

It was like a witches cauldron of tiny issues, that boiled and boiled until I just shut down and stopped caring. I wasn't popular, I didn't have much in the way of nice things, my parents wouldn't help me get a car or a license, I wasn't terribly interested in school, and my home life wasn't anything to be proud of. My parents had children when I was 7 and 9, and by the time I hit high school, they spent far more time with them, than they did with me. It was hard to even get a positive reaction from my parents, let alone spend time with them. That contributed to a lot of what I was feeling, and in the end, I just felt small and alone.
