Scientific Research & Self-Development Activism
"Regardless of whether you get along with all of it's inhabitants, this tiny planet is home to all of us.
Humanity's existence as a species depends on our ability to coexist peacefully.
This article is a plan of transition to a society in which we all can live peacefully and auspiciously.
There is one simple idea behind this plan; coexistence through sustainable independence.
Sustainable independence defined as being able to govern one's self without needing to depend on other people, the state or private organisations in order to attain any of the necessities for human survival and success; also without having a negative impact on the environment and in such a way that can continue forever (opposite of dependency on oil as oil will run out).
These necessities defined within the NCUK mission statement as food, water, clothing, housing, electricity, healthcare, internet access and education.
This plan is made possible by current technology and many of the benefits of modern living we have in developed countries. This would show how the technology is real and sustainable for all and would lead to more distributed and efficient networks of technology that provide the same benefits, even if not in a single home. In other words, eventually once everyone became aware that automatic aquaponics systems are possible at home, it would make it possible for those with the resources to make larger systems that can distribute food to the local residents instead of each resident having their own system, as this may be less efficient. This plan is also based on the possiblity of emergence, the realisation that the only constant in society is change, so as new technology develops, parts of this plan may change (and I will draft new updated versions as this happens).
Some of the systems mentioned in this article are cited as needing "little to no maintenance". When talking about having these systems as free, most people retort that they could not be free because someone must be paid to maintain them. I believe in this system, a system that cares for the individual and society holistically, there would be no shortage of volunteers, and no shortage of free knowledge on how to maintain the systems for these volunteers to learn.

If humanity, if we seriously thought about how we're going to solve these problems, we'd realize that there is no enemy. And that we must "live together or die alone" in these difficult times where we are still fighting for resources. So, we must give up some modern comforts in favor of sustainable ones.
I dunno I previously thought people on the street wouldn't have much of a useful opinion. But. Benefit of the doubt and all. Maybe if you get people thinking on a fundamental level, which doesn't insult their intelligence and still challenges them, then they will be able to do something with that.

If you still have the same level of safety & maintenance checks, there should not be any problem. A general well-motivated work ethic is central to building a new society, however, that's not to say the one we have isn't illusory or misrepresentative of society's needs today anyway. What are society's needs? We don't even know. That says something about how we are always just going along with what's already existed.
But, someone gave the example of medical staff like surgeons, nurses.. how would you compensate these people in such a society? Maybe if there is no money in such a society, these people would be doing it for something different. Maybe the richest people in our society today even, would have better lives if we could indeed base everything primarily on what resources can be used for however many people. Surely we ought to be putting solar panels in deserts and crops on the land, the best way we know how, and people in all buildings that already exist. Nobody has such an idea figured out so far, but it's its peaceful and helpful nature which we would all do well to immerse ourselves in for a short time.
Permalink Reply by SparTom007 - Tom on July 22, 2012 at 5:24pm I've not based this idea on any "social needs", only the fundamental needs for humanity to survive laid out in a sustainable way :)
As for compensating people, that is partly my point. It should be a privelege to serve society, not because we want money or honour or medals, but because it is simply a privilege to do so. ^Jacques Fresco ;)
I agree about the solar panel thing too, I dunno why it's not being done yet tbh, I guess the infrastructure to transfer the power around isn't here yet :\
It's crazy how much we as humans have distanced ourselves from nature.

You want to abolish capitalism on the notion that people don't respect the right idols?
It's not an issue with capitalism it's an issue with human nature. Those that are of lesser inteligence or those who are moderately naive will not be able to comprehend the works of scientists and politicians who do great things. They Don't understand how revising and combining previous works can produce great things they just think simply and in the short term.
Due to this they can only understand someone's talent in the form of a pleasent voice or image or ability to run or throw or catch in sports. Though these traits aren't actually of any particular practicality in daily life, they are simple to understand and admire in naive jealosy.
In short, it's not a problem with capitalism or corporatism or even consumerism, it's just that the modern world is highly populated with morons.
This comment annoyed the hell outta me in that thread xD It's one of my pet peeves when people say that it's "human nature" that is the flaw in society, not the system itself... It shows a complete lack of understanding of simple human behavioural psychology. Fact is, we're all born without bigotry, with open minds, rather intelligent and quite altruistic (thanks to evolution, we actually are all genuinely altruists when we're born!) but society has just come to a point where now that thinking is pushed out of us and the behavious we exhibit is just a result of environmental and social conditioning!
I POWER MEMBERS: ABOVE SOCIAL CONDITIONING!

Permalink Reply by March E. on July 22, 2012 at 10:27pm LOL scientists and politicians...indeed so much progress has been done when they come together, atomic bombs, weapons of mass destruction flying out of your ass, and drones...From what I can tell, politicians are the ones hindering progress. If not for politics, we could have been more integrated with solar energy here in America by now.

Permalink Reply by Sorlaize on July 23, 2012 at 12:39am I dunno what you can say, other than politicians manage our ever-more-complex world. Why does the system need to be complicated in the first place?
Yeah I pretty much find myself asking why any nation, today, needs 200,000 or however nuclear weapons ready to go (which they did, although not so many, even during the cold war), and why the world / media is so focused today on stopping ONE country even BEING ABLE TO MAKE ONE nuclear weapon... I sure hope I'm missing something here.
About the media, though, I think they just go to whatever sounds interesting, and none of the major news companies are interested in raising awareness of things that might matter more than anything else.. how else would they get money? So, I would blame the media and everyone for following them blindly, if you are going to point the finger at just one or two groups in particular. If everyone thought for themselves and we didn't have to make so much food and throwaway products, yeah, I think the world could be a much better place. If everyone thought for themselves, maybe we wouldn't have racism/general bigotry and small crimes overwhelming police forces. Maybe we wouldn't have large scale wars. Maybe, if people weren't so overwhelmed by work that they're tired..
It all folds back into the realization that we live so unnaturally now and it's slowly killing us all, in various ways. Breaking down the good-natured, able, human being. Slowly.
