We respect all different beliefs. But I Power may not always be the right place for specific types of discussions. Due to an enormous amount of community feedback, I have now implemented the following guideline:

"7. Content

The focus of Athenism is on self-development in a generally rational and scientific way. Posts which focus on spiritual, New Age or nonsensical and incoherent content may be closed or removed by moderators if they are considered to be out of place. Repeatedly posting such content can result in suspension."

Check the full list of community guidelines here.

A clear, specific goal is always a good thing.

I agree with this. Good idea, and it'll prevent problems in the future.
Fuck yeah.

By promoting this kind of policy, you may run the risk of alienating a lot of possible discussion.  The ATOE documentary itself was largely metaphysical and spiritual in nature.  Even if you can intended its content to have a scientific character, you can see how modern physics is now blurring into metaphysics. I don't think discouraging or removing non-scientific content is what will help the movement (if it can still be called a movement).  What is wanted by all, I think, is concreteness... grounded observation and citation, and with that in mind, in my opinion "New Age-type stuff" can indeed be just as concrete and based in reality as rigorous science can be abstract.  Again, your documentary is a good example of something which might, by your own rules, be considered as a candidate for removal.

In my opinion, you must as a moderator either:

(1) define a soft boundary between what is "rational and scientific" and what is "spiritual or New Age," in order to guide community discourse (when talking about self-development anyway); or

(2) accept that the scientific and New Age areas of discourse inter-relate, and leave it up to the community to decide in which thread they shall choose to participate.

Disagree on most points. The documentary's focus was not spiritual at all and there is a difference between formulating possible scientific theories and rambling about invisible lizardmen who live on the sun. Common sense will have to be used to differentiate between those and if people have a problem with the fact that such moderation is always to some extent subjective, then so be it.

Come on! Have you ever googled "Athene's theory of everything" and looked what kind of pages are promoting it? Things like "2012forum",  "disclose.tv" and what not..... (and don't forget Judy, beacuse these are the kind of people who get attracted by AToE, and as you see for yourself, there aren't many scientists who want to talk about it. What does that say?)

And I agree that it really IS scientific and that it IS a scientific theory BUT it is closely related to spiritual ideas. There is a reason why Chiren repeatedly had to say "This might maybe sound a little bit metaphysical... but... etc etc".(He does it all the time, just watch the live-streams) BECAUSE THE STATEMENTS ARE very close to metaphysical claims.

Again, nobody's talking about imposing strict rules like 'NO SPIRITUALITY'. All we're saying is basically: if you keep posting crazy stuff and members feel it's disrupting the focus of the site (as many people have been complaining about), we may intervene. This is a very loose guideline.

Ok then,

Let's see how this works out.

No hard feelings!

It wasn't scientific. period.

Brian: "I hope you're not referring to my [philosophical posts], OR my personal, honest and first-hand scientific accounts of my own personal experiences... Nothing I ever post is nonsensical or incoherent."

My thoughts exactly.  It's welcome to introduce a new topic of discussion (scientific self-development), but it's quite another thing to completely delineate a community's focus of conversation inside a box, when many are not at all impressed or interested by what is claimed to be inside it.

Turn that box inside out, in my opinion, and you'll discover what this website used to be about.  It wasn't about containment of discourse; it was like a hundred people putting our backs together against a surface upon which we could report our thoughts and feelings about the world.

If people don't want to talk rationally about C=hf, it can only be because it doesn't matter much to them. When something matters to one person and not the multitude, it will be recognized sympathetically and then ignored.  When something matters to everyone, and people believe that it matters, it will be discussed relentlessly.  All they need are cool heads and critical perspectives.  The rest is up to them.

This would be the case if the community was larger. But it is relatively small and in the past months it has happened several times that small groups of individuals come register and change the entire focus of the site, leading to the front page showing nothing but Top Content that not only has nothing to with I Power but actually scares off most people who would be into I Power.

Then change how the front page looks.

I've said this before. If you want to attract people to good content, then make a widget that contains "I-Power Classics" of great discussions past that ought to continue, and a widget that contains "Featured Discussions" of recent threads you like.
