Scientific Research & Self-Development Activism
The most common complaint I hear about the systems in place (politics, money, etc) is that to resist them is futile because we are either afraid of opposing them or because we think we will only replace them with something else that won't work either.
This is complete and utter bull. These are fear driven thoughts which perpetuate because people lack the ability to solve problems.
Here are some examples so you understand I'm not just making this all up from nowhere:
Laws are restrictions on people based on questions we don't have answers to.
Speed Limit (Fear: reckless driving --->Current Solution: Make a Law about Speeding. --> Better Solution: Make Cars Which Drive Themselves)
Don't Steal (Fear: People will take things from me so that I am put at a disadvantage ---> Current Solution: Make a Law Against Stealing. --> Better Solution: Create an abundance of resources and distribute them to everyone for free of charge.)
Don't Keep Secrets (Fear: People will do something behind your back to try and hurt you. -->Current Solution: Cryptography and Cryptanalysis. -->Better Solution: Open Source.)
Don't Hate People (Fear: Strangers are dangerous --> Current Solution: Call all who oppose you as evil or terrorists. -->Better Solution: Talk to the person and attempt to understand their point of view. They are just as lost and confused in this reality as you are.)
Don't Commit Adultery (Fear: There are a scarcity of "attractive" people. -->Current Solution: If I marry them, then no one else can have them. They are legally "owned" by me. -->Better Solution: Trust the people you enjoy being around to make decisions which do not hurt you. Insecurity on your part is also an issue. Relationships are started because of mutual interest. If mutual interest is gone, then why would you want to be around someone who no longer enjoys being around you? That makes everyone miserable because you just can't let go. If someone turns you down before anything starts, they are biologically driven to do so. It does not diminish you as an individual.)
Don't Try Anything New (Fear: It won't work or I won't be good at it. -->Current Solution: Do Nothing and Complain about how bad life is. -->Better Solution: Learn How To Problem Solve so that you will know that your solutions will work and that you will be good at it. Design with intent so that unintended consequences are minimized to near 0)
But where am I supposed to learn how to problem solve? Schools and society only teach me rote memorization. I'm not good at story problems. I can't sort the information I need from the information given. Life is not like a textbook. It doesn't come with an answer page in the back of the book. ....and on go the excuses....
My problem that I personally have been trying to solve is how to make problem solving easier for people so that they no longer have to live in fear or frustration. I'm the first to admit that problem solving is not easy for most people. If it was, we wouldn't be in this mess. So here is my solution and may it make your life of problem solving easy and enjoyable:
Permalink Reply by Sorlaize on October 6, 2012 at 12:11pm Great stuff. I call this critical thinking.
In many areas of society we, the "sheeple", are behaving in very predictable ways because of the way our society indoctrinates us much like religion does- it tells us never to ask questions; and that basically nothing can or should exist outside of it. That there is no other truth. And, it's bullshit.
