Scientific Research & Self-Development Activism
I had a conversation recently with another I-Power member about social validation and peer pressure, and it later reminded me of something that I had learned about in college called The Asch Experiment, which deals with social dynamics and the pressure that we all feel to conform. These 2 short videos will demonstrate the idea in more detail and may be very enlightening for some of you. *wink*

It's crazy every time I see these things. Even though I know it works that way.
Good reality check anyways to rethink it.
I liked this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlFAd4YdQks&NR=1

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereotype
And that one in particular has affected me personally, more than once in my life.
The thing is, there has been research done which shows that not only are women more emotional & violent than men are, but also that most incidents of domestic violence are initiated by the women involved! Yet people still refuse to believe the facts, and continue along their merry way believing this false stereotype that men are the more violent aggressors. I'm not so sure that women are necessarily more violent by nature; but it is entirely logical that they would be more inclined to resort to violence than men are because they know that they are more likely to get away with it due to the false stereotype!

had alot of times i was the only at my class giving the right awnser and everybody else followed the wrong awnser of the rest. Strangely i been bullied and been treated like a fucking outcast for years and years at that school. I never had the urge of wanting to fit in allways want to do stuff my way. Never bully people continuesly it scrars people for life specially at really young age (will make a discussion about it soon)
I met most of them recently and it seems im the only one of the class succeeded at life and still getting better and better at it. Whos laughing now : )
Permalink Reply by Essah on July 17, 2011 at 2:26pm that sounds very familiar to me. I reckon im typically the one to not follow the rest and I was bullied too.
about scarring people for life... very true. still strugglin with some issues cause of it. although that's a bit of a sidetrack.

Permalink Reply by The Shiznit on July 18, 2011 at 4:05pm I forgot all about the "Cult of Personality". Thanks for mentioning that - I'll add it to my list of reference links. ;-)
And yeah, I see it all of the time, too. The use of media and government propaganda to mentally condition the masses into adopting belief systems that cannot be questioned w/o suffering enormous negative peer pressure. Two superb examples that come immediately to my mind, are the ideas that our government and our culture are the best ones on the planet; and the idea that our soldiers are to be respected above the average citizen, as if {or because} they are supposedly more noble & worthy of respect than the rest of us; which is bullshit. If you openly question ideas like that, you will not get invited to a lot of parties. I mean, the majority of people in this country will criticize you, insult you, or ostracize you for expressing an opinion that is contrary to those ideas; and some of them may even want to stone you! heh
Shit pisses me off. :-)
Permalink Reply by Michael Scaife on July 17, 2011 at 3:00am This is all fun and laughter with silly candid pranks but this sort of situation get's a lot more serious when people's suffering is involved.
I don't like movie references but the movie kick-ass demonstrates how human nature will allow people to suffer and nobody wants to break away from the trend of sitting still and doing nothing to help people just beacuase it's what's around them, social conformity sucks.#
p.s good topic shiz
