I know that there is this preppy wordt for it, but i forgot. They explained it like, a lot of people these days read/hear/experience different religions and pick and choose the stuff they like.
And like playing with LEGO assamble their own religion.

If i had to choose a strickt path, i am closest to budhism. And yes, meditation and yoga help me with my self development hugely.

I sometimes attend open rituals (witch stuff) but mostly to check if i didn't loose connection with the 'real world' while evolving. To alter my often black/white vieuw on the world.

Eclectic

For me religion is like constantly pulling a brake while trying to drive faster.

The last few times I was in the church was because of funerals. And instead of giving people hope, they told people how worthless and small, how stupid and imperfect they are, and that no one can reach ANYTHING in life without god.

Got me very, very angry. My grandfather died, and all I could think in this church was: Shut the f*ck up. Stop talking, or i'm going to throw that bible in your face. Really. People were sad because a loved one died, and all they got to hear was that they have to trust in god, because they are too stupid to think for themselves.

Religion is like a drug. It can make you feel better, temporarly, because you can let go off control. You give away your responsability to something, someone else. But in the long run it will only make you dependant like an addict, so, that you can't live without it anymore, because you grew weak, instead of facing your problems and conquering them.

Hoping for god to help is like hoping for heroin to cure your depression. I might sound harsh, and I thought about writing this in a more.. tolerant way. But that is what I really think, so I write it.

(*This does not count for all religions, though. Buddhism for example. Still, that also has it's flaws.)

Maybe you can learn something from Jesus, Mohamed or Budha.... They where open minded and had their own ideas, but the churches are only bureaucrats trying to preserve themselves.

Look for the core not for the clutter.

You get that all the time. Look at the core. But I judge people by how they act, not by how they think. And thus, also religions. Religion is, as religion does.

Jesus surely was a nice person, and Budha whise, but, if you take for example Mohamed... well.. he was a conqueror. A man who led people to kill other people. I don't consider that openminded ;)

maybe i´m wrong with mohamed, in southpark he looked like a nice guy ;)

Funny that you mentioned South Park {one of my favorite TV shows} and their depictions of Mohammed.  Its creators, Matt & Trey actually received several death threats for doing that; and in 2010 Comedy Central & Viacom wussed-out under the heat surrounding it and refused to let them do it for their 200th Episode Special.  They also pulled all of the episodes that depicted Mohammed off of the official South Park website, and no longer air those episodes on the network; which is total bullshit.  Caving in out of fear because some extremist Muslims threaten to kill you or bomb your building for showing a cartoon picture of their "Holy Prophet" is simply absurd, imho.  *sigh*

The problem is, that you HAVE to take those threats seriously, because it happened many times, that cartoonists were nearly killed/killed, for just drawing a picture. That's the sad truth.  Those who want to live surrender... *shrug*

Fock that. Fock extremists. It's not 500 BC any more, it's 2012.

2012, where Comedy will be stronger than religion.

Even if we have to pay with our lives, it will wake up the world and change it for the better. Your (own) religion is important, but it shouldn't give meaning to your bad actions. Economy, just like religion, should just be a helpful tool. It turned into power and might.

This is there battle.

In my opinion there is definatly something to learn from the leading figures in several religions.
From jesus you could learn much more than from christianity itself.

That's true. But if you want to learn from people, and not from religions, you can even find quite a few good examples who weren't religious at all. :)

My first experience with narrow minds came from religion. I asked always questions:

When Adam and Eve where the first an only people, how can we become so many without inbreeding?

Same for Nohas animals and how did they come to his arch?

Why did god kill egyptians to safe the jews?

...

On the other hand i like zen, because it is pure self development and no sparkling fairies.

Yep.  Looks like it was a mistake.   Loose Cable Explains Faulty 'Faster-than-Light' Neutrinos   And since the GPS system was affected, it looks like Michio Kaku's guess was right after all.
