This is going to be a bit of a rant. You guys probably have heard me say over and over again how much student loans eat up our lives. I have a ton of money I owe for taking out student loans and many other people are in the same boat as I am, including those of the older generation here in America. The fact that we pay so much for education, yet we are not guaranteed a decent job that pays well enough to cover the bills shows how much America loves to screw with its citizens.

Federal government doesn't want to hand over money to us for education. We spend more on prisoners than on students. My parents remember spending less money on education than today. Elderly people are being paid less than what they started out with at their jobs. Frugal spenders and those who have been saving their money are actually the ones who are being punished rather than the ones who keep borrowing. We are being taxed without our consent through inflation. Those who don't make enough money get a lot of benefits - paid education, healthcare...etc, while those who do, get taxed and receive nothing in returned. I don't blame anyone and I don't like the point fingers. The system is flawed. I want my education, but how much does it take for us to get a piece of paper that says "I AM TRAINABLE"?

A bill is in the making right now that will forgive student debt here in America. The text for the bill can be found here. So please guys, do us a favor and sign this petition for this Loan Forgiveness Bill:  http://signon.org/sign/support-the-student-loan.fb9?source=s.fb&...

Student debt is out of control. So much for "land of opportunity..." and the "American Dream."

Great post, March.  I think it's really outrageous, too, that our young people in this country have to start off their lives being in debt to the government; and w/o even a decent guarantee that their "borrowed education" will get them anywhere after they graduate.

Our "system" needs to be completely overhauled.

Hmmm ... I'v never had a student loan and I'm not interested in this topic, but I don't like the title. I have a problem with the word forgiveness.

Who are you asking for forgiveness?
The banks?

What did they ever do to deserve to have the status to forgive you?

As I see it, all that they did was to give you some free money to go and study something that they teach (through their control of university funding) so you can then go on to become a wage slave.

That brings me to the question, why not make your own course of study?
Certify yourself ...

The world does not give a shit about the number of papers you have from some phoney institutions telling them how good you are at following instructions or cramming up books of junk. They really only care about how good you are at your work. So if you can be the master of your work, you don't need certificates or degrees.

Don't think I'm preaching without practice. I have held a number of positions at a number of companies which needed skilled, high profile talent. I have been paid well. I now run my own company as the sole employee and don't make nearly as much money. Cause I have had enough money and now I wanna help the world.

Time to take a fresh look at this thing called life maybe?

There are two sides to this coin...unfortunately forgiving student loans would only add to worse inflation, taxes, among other things.  The best thing you can do is modify your priorities and what is important to you in this day and age.  Yes there is something entirely screwed up with the system, none the less this is the system we have to work with until there is some kind of revolution or the system caves in on itself.  I am a weirdo in that I study and assign myself small projects and homework people would do in school on my own for a hobby and will not get the certificate because of the strings attached for these subjects and the money you need for classes...  I don't regret it.  In the long run if I do get a loan it will be for some field I have researched and know has a profit.  It's more important now than ever to be wise about how you go about doing it...

I'd like to discuss something that bothers me about people, how often times people condemn others for doing something wrong all the while ignoring their own transgressions. I'm going to use an extreme example of school shooters. Society condemns…See More
