Scientific Research & Self-Development Activism
I know he's sorta the most mainstream lifecoach/self-help guy out there and that combined with his 'slick' style can be a turn-off for a lot of people. I myself don't agree with a lot of things he says but at the same time I think he's a very impressive speaker. Being so much into self-dev and all, I felt I had to be in the loop so I've been reading his 'Awaken The Giant Within' (cliché self-help titles ftw) and thus far it's a book that you'd easily discard if you don't like the 'tone' of 'typical' self-help stuff or of Tony Robbins' work specifically but at the same time he does talk some really cool and fundamental insights and some of it is pretty inspiring.
Just wanted to know, from all you guys who are familiar with him or perhaps some of you have read some of his books, what do you guys think of him? I'm curious about what I Power's opinion is on Tony Robbins :).

Permalink Reply by Kokomo on April 28, 2011 at 6:52am Hey Reese! Yea I read his book. Great guy very knowledgeable in what he is talking about. I don't remember everything I read in that awaken the giant within but it was pretty informative. It is one of the self help books I actually enjoy reading. I like how he breaks everything down into so simple pleasure, and pain and how we all go for pleasure. He talks about our priorities and I agree with that and I try and prioritize everything in my life. He talks about setting goals for yourself. Basically not much new stuff, but everything he does bring forward he brings forward in a very easy to understand manner. Ask yourself questions that are empowering, look at your identiy and the pegs. SORRY my brain is fried right now, so tired. :D This post seems random...
Yeah I like the stuff, but I sort of change it around and make it fit into my life. I sort of bring togehter everything I learn from the best and I put it together. I think the best thing one can do is surround themselves with awesome people therefore making oneself awesome.
Permalink Reply by Apurv Mathur on April 28, 2011 at 12:55pm I went through the audio version of the book and thought the content was pretty cool.
I've also borrowed his 'get the edge' and 'lessons in mastery' program from one of my mates. I haven't had the time to go through them yet but I liked the little I've heard of it (i dunno why but i played some of the tracks and went right to the end just to see how they turned out like it was a mystery movie or something :b).
[sidenote : i also went through this amazing interview of Steven Covey by Tony Robbins - do check it out if possible -- packed with great value!]
But again, its always Jeet-Kune-Do style with him or any other mainstream self-help material.
Overall, I'd probably give Tony Robbins and his material a 4 on 5. :)

Have you finished the book? or applied any of the lessons/philosophies to your life? They are very helpful and practical. The bottom line is that what he does is a buisness, but its something he clearly has passion for. And its a whole lot better than slinging mcdonalds or half the death we get pushed in our faces.
The style and nature of anything in the self help genre can be easily tossed aside, but if you are serious about improving your life or just one aspect Tony actually has great solutions. Solutions based in biological response to certain events that are rooted in the evolution of humans
