Becoming Badass

"You can learn more in an hour of silence than you can from a year reading books."
"What you become is infinitely more important than what you do or what you have."
- Mathew Kelly

The meaning of life, according to author Mathew Kelly, is to become "the best version of yourself."
The message of his new book "The 7 Levels of Intimacy" is that an intimate relationship, whether between lovers, family, business partners, or friends, is one in which both parties are working to help the other become the best version of themselves. The first line of the book is "Sex is not intimacy." That should be clearly understood. From my understanding of Kelly, intimacy is a quality that a relationship has when the people involved are aware of each others' legitimate needs and are working to help each other become the "best version of themselves."

I created this group for people to share specific and effective strategies that they've used to help them toward this ideal of the "best version of yourself." Even if nobody else were to join this group, my goal is to provide as much quality content as I can, and I believe that the people who do join should do the same. If even just one person can take something positive away from what we've written and use it to become a better version of themselves, then I would consider this group a success. Also, the discussions should not be about, to any degree, my own ideas or strategies. They should be a collection of ideas and strategies from each of us, along with replies from the rest of the group. I want this group to be as rich in content as possible. If you have any suggestions, let us know through comments at the bottom.

Goals:

1. Explore who the "best version of yourself" might be.
2. Determine what course of action will achieve your "best self."
3. Share the strategies you're using and actions you're taken.

Here are the seven "Levels of Intimacy":
(according to Mathew Kelly)

First Level: Cliches
Second Level: Facts
Third Level: Opinions
Fourth Level: Hopes and Dreams
Fifth Level: Feelings
Sixth Level: Faults, Fears, and Failures
Seventh Level: Legitimate Needs

If you don't already have "The Seven Levels of Intimacy," I would recommend it as required reading.

Wow.. The first discussion I stumbled across and it's already given me a lot of food for thought.

"You can learn more in an hour of silence than you can from a year reading books."

I've never really tried that before, the answers I came across were surprising, to say the least.

It looks a very interesting book :)

I think a good friend of mine just bought it... definitely a book i am gonna ask to borrow!

i think this is a very interesting group :) we should all be the best version of ourselves...

i have a lot of flaws which i am working on. eacht day i make a list of things to do for the next day, and this seems to work for me. a day up front is not far away which is the reason i most of the time do the things i have to do i think. i know the weekly to do lists don't work for me...

I agree with Matthew Kelly, about achieving the best of myself, just hope I don't have to be selfish to do that.

I'll check that book out. "The Inner Path of Leadership" by Joe Jaworski is one you should pick up
