The Transition Movement

The Transition Movement is a grassroots Network of communities that are working to build resilience in response to peak oil, climate change, and economic instability.  Utilizing various concepts such as Permaculture and Local Currency systems, the goal of the Transition Movement is to enable communities to become more economically independent and self-sustainable.

I'm wondering whether anyone here is close to any of the 'transition movement' groups in a city somewhere.

The Transition Movement and I-Power have no official connection to each other. Groups on this site are just a way for people to express & talk about their common interests. As for informative links, I just put up the ones that I knew about on the Resource Links Page. There is a lot of stuff out there on the web about the movement because it has been around for a while; so a Google search will get you THOUSANDS of hit results.

Not that clear to me how to "function" as part of a group as such.

What sort of things can be done?

And apart from the posted links where can I read more general information about this movement?  In particular I am interested in knowing whether this is something which is based outside of this website - to which this group is simply a small part of - etc.
