My Daddy's Records - A Labor of Love

Posted on March 4, 2009 at 4:30pm 1 Comment

This coming September will be five years since my father passed away from lung cancer. Instead of wallowing in the pain, I decided to take this milestone event and turn it into something positive. I'll be launching a monthly e-zine dedicated to our shared love of music, called My Daddy's Records. It'll feature one of our favorite artists or groups, cancer news and research, encourage donations and volunteerism to the American Cancer… Continue

A few weeks ago I joined popular radio personality Michael Baisden's social network iseecolor. According to him, the premise of the group is to appreciate the world's different races and colors for what they are, and not pretend to be colorblind. I'm not a tremendous fan of Mr. Baisden, but after getting two invitiations to join the group, I folded. The group is not meeting my expectations. Don’t get me wrong, 2008 wasn’t all bad news: my mom was able to finally help me out with the bills, we were able to keep our home, and one of my kids even made the honor roll (a big deal, trust me). There seemed to be more… Continue

I awoke this morning to the news that the Big 3 Auto bridge loan deal had been killed in the Senate. I didn't know how to feel. The morning news anchors played a piece showcasing how much each of the Big 3 gave during times of national crises, from WWII to September 11 to Hurricane Katrina, and I just became melancholy. Melancholy and conflicted. On the one hand, it seems that these guys did not care to keep pace with emerging trends in design and technology, didn't dare think to be… Continue

"If done well, freelancing can be a really nice way to make money. I've thought about doing some tutoring on the side myself and other freelancing stuff, but going full freelancing is too daunting for me. "
