Worry

Posted on May 31, 2012 at 11:43pm 0 Comments

In a Jon Kabat-Zinn talk he says “worrying is like driving a car with the brakes on”.

This statement has sort of stuck in my head of late.  There is, for me, a most fundamental truth there.

Worrying about what has already happened. Worrying about what might happen. Either way it takes the focus from the present moment.

Actually I am not so sure “worry” is the right word regarding thinking about the past. It seems worry is more about the unknown – worrying about what…

What I Am Liking About This Site

Posted on May 27, 2012 at 12:48am 1 Comment

I have been involved in numerous blogging sites over the last several years.

I have always favoured those which are set up more like "social" sites.  By that I mean those sites which not only have facility to reply to things written by others but which have some sort of common "stream" which displays current and latest activity on the site. This way you at least get some sort of public exposure, which allows others to "see" you and get some idea of what you are about. And so if they…

The Urge To Write

Posted on May 25, 2012 at 4:27am 3 Comments

It never really abates.

But it does get affected by other things.  There was a time when I would easily share extremely personal information online. No more.

Time and experience have caused me to be more selective and careful. Call it self protection I suppose.  I have learned that there exist many people in this world who think nothing of crossing what one might perceive as a moral line which should not be crossed - and in fact will do so simply to assuage their own ego or…

Monday morning rant

Posted on May 21, 2012 at 12:12am 0 Comments

So I’m in at work early on a Monday morning.  As is usual there is hardly anyone here but a few start to trickle in as we pass 7am.

Without thinking about it too much I find myself plugging in my hard drive and putting in the earphones and I start listening to something new I downloaded last week. In this case it’s the latest Lamb Of God album (no I’m not a metal head particularly – I like a vast array of music depending upon my mood…..).

Anyway – eventually the guy I work with…
