On Societal Norms and Self-Endangerment

On Societal Norms and Self-Endangerment

By Charlie Shields

Every day we are faced with decisions of etiquette. We exist in a society where cultural manners and niceties affect how we as individuals are perceived by our fellow human beings. Through the years, etiquette becomes a social norm, not just affecting perception, but actually controlling behavior. In other words, if a norm is so widely practiced and its status as a norm is widely known, we will engage in activity in… Continue

A Cool take on Life After Death

Hi all,

I just found an interesting blog online about life after death and it really opened my eyes. I think this guy might be on to something. He seems to give ideas for answers to questions about life after death and spirits and stuff. Have a look and let me know what you think. I think we could start a discussion on it on Ipower?

Return of the monk?...

Back from my five day exile/vacation and now it’s time to get back to business. At the moment I’m doing homework so that means I’m serious lol (I made a bad habit of not doing it this year). Last weekend, I had to travel more than 600 km over a period of five days for a five minute check up on my braces. Not bad huh? I got to see some family including my brother and I avoided a big flue outbreak in my hometown (I dodged a bullet there ;), so it wasn’t too bad. Anyways, I’m back now, feeling… Continue

Socialisation causes headache

When I have to (or want to :P) socialise, more often then not for me it means stress. Not always, but when I pull myself out of comfort zone, it usually does mean exactly that: a huge amount of stress. Psychological stress manifests itself in physical symptoms such as headache. So if I approach random people I feel this nervousness and the usual somatic appearances like shaking hands and burning in the chest, adrenalin rush. That would be all fine for one approach, but if I do several in a row,… Continue

I might be a 9/12 Project supporter after all!

My cousin has me on facebook now and his wife is part of this patriotic mom's community on ning where it has the nine principles for this 9/12 Project, and I'll paste them here. They are as follows:

The Nine Principles

1. America is good.

2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life.

3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.

4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.

5. If you…

Crew Update Vol. 8 (10/24/09)

Quick little status update!

The I Power Rangers intro is all but finished so we'll be starting new (serious) I Power videos in the very near future (probably starting after the 3rd of November) while working on SDA which will start some time after that. You can expect a return of substance videos as well as community update-ish videos and crew vlogs - in fact I'm writing out some ideas and there's a chance I'll be doing self-development vlogs (mainly on emotional intelligence) after… Continue

Who's up for some gaming?

I just got my DS lite working with my wifi again (took some tooling around and an adapter that I have to jiggle every now and then), so I suppose I should use this as an opportunity to socialize with my fellow ipower rangers. What? Games are totally social, especially when you play with other people! I haven't got many games, so I'm just going to lay them all out and you can add me when you leave your friend code in the comments. I'll try to get on when you guys call me out, but generally I… Continue

Asking for directions on the streets

I continue to document my self-development pursuits with a strong emphasis on socialisation. Yesterday I went out on the streets again and asked random girls for directions. It were not many that i asked but the most responded well and . . . well tried to explain the how to get to a certain place. ;)

The one girl that I wanted to approach did not want to talk to me, she gesticulated in a rejecting manner with her hands and walked by. The behaviour is kind of understandable though,… Continue

Travelling as a Self Development tool?

I read another member of iPower's blog on traveling and whether it is a useful tool for self development, you see it often and hear of it often in movies and stories. The lost aimless guy goes traveling for awhile and comes back calm and collected and twice the guy he once was, or something along those lines but does it really work?

Well I can only give you my opinion in my experiences of which I have ... 107 days worth of trialing this tool.

Travel does amazing things for… Continue

Saying "Hi" on the streets

Hi guys this is my first blog. I'm not sure how it will come out, but I'll try and document my self-development process. I did something already. I take contrast showers and I exercise every morning. This is all good and well, but there is an area, which I feel that I basically desperately suck. Of course, it's socialisation. I feel like I cannot have a proper small-talk at all. And this feels pretty miserable.

There is a theme of I-Power -- "conditioned happiness" -- in the sense… Continue

Emotional Investment

Last night I laid awake all night waiting for a text from my girlfriend. This is after spending a very pleasant weekend with her, which did have its downsides but they weren't the fault of me or her so they did not worry me, and feeling closer to her than I have felt to anyone for a long time. Maybe closer than I have ever felt to anyone.

Although I won't go into details I will say the text was something I invested a lot of emotion in. It was important to me to know how she felt and… Continue

Be open minded. Use active thinking. Put your vision into practice.

You know, the hardest thing about putting a vision into practice is realizing what your vision even is. I think I may finally have accomplished that...

Since July, I've been working one of the shittiest jobs of my entire life. That's why I haven't been here, the job totally drains me, and I hate being there, and there's nobody else to hire me.

So my pal in Phoenix got in touch with me around that time and told me he was starting up a subscription local sports news site,… Continue

How vLogging makes you feel better(just waffling, it makes me feel good, wouldnt suggest reading it but thats your choice)

Just a quick little blog, I was going to put all my thoughts into a blog originally but then though, stuff that I'm just going to do a vlog, faster, easier, better.

Though one is 12 minutes, I wonder how that's going to work?
