I always wanted to work for myself. I think lots of people would really enjoy being their own boss.

There are pros and cons of course just like working for someone else. The biggest advantage of self employment is that you are your own boss.

You call the shots. You can work when you want. You are in control. Everything is on your terms whether you decide to hire others as help or just do everything yourself.

But unfortunately to be self employed you better know what the $%#^ you are doing. There will always be work in business and doing most of it on your own is very tough.

When you work for yourself you are starting your own business. It can be tough and no matter what the business is you will need to be able to deal with the competition.

I feel I really could enjoy doing my own thing because I enjoy competition and all of that stuff. The way I see it there will always have to be work done but when you run your own business you decide how hard you want to work and make things happen.

My dad ran a restaurant when I was a little kid and he would hire the staff, set the schedules, make sure everything is in line, and count the money. He was also the main cook there.

But he would be working like all the friggin time which was fine because he could handle it. I used to work for him as a dishwasher when I was like 12 and would help him count the money at home. It is not like he did not have time for me.

I don't know maybe that whole experience taught me to work hard like my dad was. But then a few years later after he owned it for over 10 years he finally had to sell it mainly because my parents divorced.

But hey man it happens. Whatever. Anyway the point of this blog post is that there is no rule or law saying you cannot go into business for yourself. I assume take the risk while you are young in your 20s. It might not be such a risk if you do the homework and are passionate about your business.

There is always tons of work but I assume you will always have to do the work whether you have a boss ordering you around to do it or you are self motivated enough to do it yourself.

The idea of going out in whatever industry and starting your own business adventure is really interesting to me. Figuring out how to turn profits and whatnot. Its almost like a game only a serious game.

Rocker thinks a lot like I did.
I used to really want to just start my own development company, and cut out the middleman. In recent times I've discovered all you need to achieve this is first produce some really fine quality work to grab the attention of a studio, have a degree so once that studio notices you they can hire you, then work there for awhile. After picking up some extra skills and abilities, and after you grow tired of all the legal BS the studio will likely throw at you, you quit and put together a small team of talented, enthusiastic members who really like what they're doing any willing to do what ever it takes to pump out the good stuff.
I know a friend that does free lance web design, and works for him self. In his prime, he was absolutely insanely busy all the time, but he was also motivated and designed a fitting lifestyle around his job that enabled him to do very well. Now he isn't as busy, but still works all the time. The real trick is starting it up. Once you can create a healthy lifestyle that lets you stay on top of the work and keeps you motivated, then you'll get used to the mountains of work that have to be done daily. Eventually this will work to your benefit, as you will come to know others who are very talented and motivated, and once you know someone on the "inside," even more opportunities present them selves.
I've done a lot of thinking and studying of this kind of stuff because one of my biggest goals is to eventually make a game that will be as respected and renown as Myst was back in the day. (An adventure game that focuses on story, characters, and immersion)
I've changed my mind on what I want to focus on about 9246242470924 times, but always seem to come back to this one. If you find your self coming back to what ever it is you want to make into a company, I say get motivated, and just believe in your self every day.

rocker01 to me it sounds like that you are just trying to find an easy way to make money, you're looking for a magic pill to get out of your troubles. have you done anything you said you were going to do in your other blogs? i really think you need to stop with all that crap, get a real job, move out of your moms house, then start working on some ideas of your. poondaddy is right, you have no work experience, no college background nothing, i don't know you in person but from what you wrote you do not have anywhere near the amount of dedication it takes to start a successful business.

you have to be realistic man, stop lying to yourself. if becoming your own boss was that easy everyone would be. do you not watch the news, small business are failing at a tremendous rate. just wanting to be a bussiness owner is only 5% of it, you have to have an idea, a business plan, a product something that people need, investors as in most of the time the bank. for the bank to lend you money you need to already have a certain amount of money and bad ass business plan.

you need a wake up call man, all those business owner worked their ass off for what they have, they started at the very bottom working part-time jobs, making minimum wage and most likely taking classes at a local college to learn about economics, business and such. the fact that you are 21 at home and have no job clearly shows that you are not ready to become a business owner, it takes time, dedication, and hard work.

what you need to focus on right now is getting your family situation under control then move out of your mom house forget about all that online job, business owner crap, get a job move out your moms house. when you have that down then look into starting a business. the gaming mansion sounds great and all but what is it about? don't take this as an attack on you but i really think you need a reality check. you're setting yourself up to fail.

well i guess a few people took my comment the wrong way which is fine, whatever floats your boat.
dan it's not a question about believing in yourself, it's about being realistic. you can't go from the bottom to the .top overnight, it takes times, it's a step by step process, and takes a lot lot lot of hard-work and dedication. the intent of my comment was for rocker01 to get his priorities right, read up on his older blogs and you might get a better understanding. but hey it's whatever, good luck.

I never said I wanted to go "from the bottom to the top overnight" Chris man. I kind of forget typing the blog posts but if I said something like that I am sorry lol.

I completely understand succeeding in anything takes a long time. With a legit business, company, or whatever it takes years probably decades of doing hard work and making the right moves and decisions.

You are completely right that I do not have the skills or work experience to do what it is I want to do. But I can learn. You don't think I have the dedication? Thats cool man. Maybe I don't. Maybe I am not sure.

But like I said its worth a shot. I think its worth a shot. If I fail then I fail. No big deal. If I succeed thats cool too. By the way thanks for reading my blog posts. Time to get to work. =D

If you not from scandinavia then u prolly dont know, any way there is a dude from Denmark who started 1 man buisness with out any education, the only thing he had as expirience is 9th grade... The buisness is no longer 1 man buisness, but one of europs largest. Making billions every year...

so yeh....
(and yes he who planned the strategic plan for company) but yes you have to work rly rly hard.

I have been my own boss for year and a half now and i can say it is realy hard and if i am not living with my parents i couldnt be doing it because i dont earn enough to rent / buy my own flat from it...

I am webdesigner / developer and the bussiness is tough... people in slovakia wants quality of ferrari for a price of say (skoda - cheap car from czech republic) it is problem to get a project and the problems only start there...

of course it has many benefits like self managed working time, no worry about stereotype because of the cycle of finding client, presentation, design, coding etc, but lately i was toying with idea of stable job with stable salary ( something like when i get back from work i know i dont have to do anything until next morning) because now work never stops... of course i have plenty of free time but i cant enjoy it that much with all that thinking about work stuff

and the most recent thing i teamed up with one of my new classmates from univerzity i am atending and we are planing to build up 12 billboards for start...

this will beter qualify as a bussines to me beacause once they are standing the provide money with less effort... than the website cycle...

@Thomas Yea man, it really is tough. I found out pretty quickly that it takes up just about all of your time. Which is cool. Thanks for the comment.

Well I wasted two years of my life as a business major before changing my major and I own a growing business, so I guess I can share a little knowledge. Business is tough. There is a science to every aspect, marketing, management, motivation, advertising, business law; each has its own science so to grow and compete with the big dogs learn it. However, you cannot apply any general statement to starting you own business. TONS of businesses shoot up over night and when there is already competitors out there that are widely known, ever heard of GOOGLE or FACEBOOK, what about Microsoft. Sure these are the few exceptions, but they happen on a micro level as well.

If Rocker wants to open a bakery baking cupcakes and has the best damn cupcakes in the country then he is going to succeed. We call this in the business world a sustainable competitive advantage. My company although small relies heavily on this. Although I am a full time student plus, and do many things for my community because it is my civil duty not because it pays, I am still very, very passionate about my work.

It is about growing, start with the capital that you can afford. Investing in capital doesn’t mean that you have to risk losing it all, it’s not the stock market. Capital if your business fails is still worth money. So purchase capital, with this capital you provide your service or product, with this product you sell it and produce revenue. The key is to not consume all your revenue, reinvest into your company to make your competitive advantage sustainable.

I would not suggest entering into some business fields because the competition would be unbearable. Anything that is going to require huge amount of startup capital is probably going to be out of reach as a small business owner. Stick to something you like doing and something that doesn’t take millions to start. But don’t try some pyramid scheme or get rich bs find what you are good at and passionate at and focus on customer satisfaction and quality. Form lasting relationships with customers and give them more personal service then the “big guys”

By the way stay with your mother as long as you can. There is no law, or even theory that suggests you will be a better business owner if you don’t live with mom. In fact I would say you have a better chance of starting a business living at home then on your own. Rent, food and utilities cost money, money that you need for a business. If you have any specific questions about business feel free to message me.
