A blonde stops at a gasstation, tries to tank the car, but the hose does bot reach the car. She enters the gas station office:
- I can't tank the car.
- Get closer - comes the switf reply.
The blonde takes two steps forward and leans a bit closer:
- I can't tank the car.
Looking the blonde in this joke, she doesn't seems to be very bright. The reason for that, is the following:
For those who know, why blondes in blonde-jokes are so stupid, one word: Context. And for those who wish to read on...
...I had this in my mind for a while now, but it clarified not so long ago, I beleive it's solid enough to go on while beeing aware of it, pretty basic too. Blonde jokes are about the basics of comunication, the context. Context is what defines what a certain word or gesture means, and as ppl can have very different experiences, different stuff inside their mind, this context can be very different, thus leading to many misunderstandings.
Simply starting from the most basic experiences, like the colour of the sunset, which one person remembers as dark orange, the other maybe living geographicaly way different area as red, or even ligth yellow. If one person would say it's like the colour of the sunset, the other would depict this as he remembers it. This is the simple part of it, where the context is relevant to your experiences, all the stuff stuffed in your memory over your life.
However the more common cause for communication mistakes are simply, what's going in yourmind. One's actual thoughts can affect the context of understanding so strongly, it can alter his perception totaly, for example feeling\thinking about having a drink, can make one hear a similar, or even totaly different but poorly sounded or pronounced word for beer or wine just because of the actual context inside the mind. Of course in a conversation if someone does not specify the context well enough, (and if the others mind is strongly on a totaly dif context u almost can't enough) only on the middle or end of the conversation will he realise what the other realy talks(talked) about.
These two are the main context changers, the later is strongly affected by emotions or the general lack of awareness, or being in the present with the person addressing, also ones social self can play a role.
When I was a boy in round 11yrs old, I was copying the Romanian language homework from classmate in the pause after the geography lesson when the geography teacher asked me what kind of exercise book am I copying. In hungarian this could have been translated to whos excersise book am I copying from, and being afraid to have my classmate drawn into something bad, after all he did me the favour to help me with the homework, of course I thought my teacher means whos ex.book is it, and not which classes homework am I copying. I answered things like, it's a green ex. book, one with a good handwritting, not willing to give out the name of my classmate. The teacher got angry and asked the question more solidly, when I finaly got what she wanted to ask. It was a harmless question, yet I could not answer it, even it looked like I was teasing her, just because of my fear. It changed the context.
To add to the story, my classmates congratulated me after, bc they thought I wanted to make fun of the teacher or something... duh...
Take a blonde joke as example, almost any I know, it's humour is based on context, or on other blond jokes which are based on context.
Before looking at the blonde joke above again, let's see how blondes are. A woman does care much more for her body then men, also for her looks, and other social things, like fashion, etiquette, customs, social (is there any other?) shame, etc. Now a blonde woman is also (usualy) pretty besides this, so when she enters the office, she is a pretty woman asking the help of men in a technical problem, what else could she possibly think of the answer in the example?
So, enough about blondes in blonde jokes. The phenomen is more general. The context is there, and it's for everyone, blondes or not. (Well, from me at least) The blonde jokes example was just for the easier explanation.
Thinking in context, beeing aware of the context, or not getting stuck with one context, one can even math or physic problems, and not the regular easy ones. Sometimes all you have to think revesed, or just freely, let a thought or an imagination of something go, and there is the clear answer. This is a bit harder to explain, maybe I do an effort sometime laters, but there is it for sure.
The purpose of this blog, is as of the laters, I stopped by the road to take a break, and put aside a hint, a clue for a fellow journeyman.
I do not wish to argue, nor did I want to bash blondes, not even the blondes in blonde jokes :)
