Scientific Research & Self-Development Activism
Hey guys, I'm back not that anyone really noticed or cared too much xD
Maybe just cos I'm still a bit of a noob compared to the guys who have been here for years and take lead with their ideas and inspire people in every post... something to aim for here I guess ;P
So if you actually have been keeping up with my previous posts, you'll know I have a few projects (like we all do) going on right now. I'll list them below and as I do so, write about the progress towards them I've made in the past month...
My Website- Layout is designed but production has grinded to a halt. I still need to design some sort of background image and a decent site logo. Then I need to decide what will be written in the first "site blog", first part of my "personal blog" and what will be written in the site's "about" section including the "about" descriptions of the founding members (myself and 2 of my best friends who will also be producing site content and videos for the youtube account linked to the site (coming soon)). I own the website domain and am getting a book to teach me HTML and CSS (I have never done either before and am hoping the book I'm getting (if memory recalls correctly, a "for dummies" book) is suitable for such a noob.
My Videos- I have my Hauppauge HD PVR, I've written a couple of scripts, tested the PVR (meh quality because my only PC is a shitty laptop atm (next thing to save up for after the New Year, saving will be slow as you'll soon find out why) and upload speed is abysmal (but I might be able to move the videos via USB to my friend's university and upload it from there...) I'm also thinking about saving up to get a camera although I've not tried using my phone which records up to 720p video (easily good enough for youtube in my opinion, 480p is good enough for vlogs xD) and making vlogs and perhaps some IRL comedy videos, maybe try learning some editing software and if I like it, maybe get some lessons in media... I do like to dabble don't I xD
Saving to move out- Ok so now I don't have to save... kinda... my gf is back here and left her international course and is now applying (and I'm putting my faith in her to do so successfully...) to study here in the UK again :D when she does so I can just live with her, whether it be Edinburgh or Manchester (we both agreed these should be her top 2 choices). so I spent my savings on taking us on holiday as I'm stressed and it might clear my mind and body so I can smash SDA ;D I've not been on holiday in years and can't really remember going abroad to enjoy myself and can't really remember just having time off to "chill". Always have something to do... hashtag BUSY < I don't understand twitter...
Getting fit and healthy- Ok so I didn't follow my schedule of awesome in my last post at all really, I was too damn tired with working two physically demanding jobs and walking to and from both jobs! On the good hand, I have been eating salads a lot more and overall eating a lot less tbh... not sure whether that's a good or bad thing but I have noticed I've lost weight (I was starting to get tubby, I still have a layer of fat but I'm starting to see outlines of muscle on my stomach and I'm about 28' or 30' waist depending on the brand ;D (if anyone knows of a beginner (easy), not too time consuming, highly motivating and effective exercise and diet thingy then link me to it please)
Getting educated- I have given up at the moment unfortunately. I don't have the time to read books or watch lectures and it destroys my work/leisure balance to do so. So sue me :P I can make my millions (for my wife and kids and charity not just me) without a degree if I need to, I will get back to studying and applying to university when I have the time and money (money it looks like I won't be able to have until I'm 25 unless I win the lottery which I don't enter xD)
Getting a proper job- I have a lot of experience considering my age and I will be applying... today! (I am literally going to go shower and stuff and go to town to apply for...) a job in a local pub. I have no experience in hospitality in that kind of environment but have supermarket, retail, sales and restaurant experience :D Also IRL I am an extremely confident person (I will be making a post in a bit asking wtf though, I'm so confident yet have so little in the way of friends, I have awesome friends, but not shit loads, it might just be I don't have time to meet people working nights and weekends)
Anyway I'm back and I didn't stop developing (I think) and I'll be posting on the forums and making my blog again (obviously)
Maybe I'll get a proper job, 9-5 weekdays, this year, find a job I enjoy, start my website, start giving regularly to a charity, make a name for myself, this could be the year... Reflection blog probably come when I turn 20 next week...
now to get up... although I haven't slept, I just got in from work a few hours ago and I'm back in again tonight xD
Thanks for reading guys :)

Comment by SparTom007 - Tom on December 26, 2011 at 11:54am Hey guys,
sorry if it wasn't clear but the reason my website project has grinded to a halt is not because of lack of motivation but because of a lack of skills and resources I require. I got a book for christmas (well, 9 books in 1) that will teach me what I need to know about writing HTML and CSS, teach me about ASP and PHP, e-commerce and whatever else I might need :)
As for trouble completing projects, some of them are, as you said, ongoing forever (like the health and fitness one) whereas some are new and have timelines. The website idea is very new and it's not that it's not high priority it's more that I have to work. See my previous posts to see how much time I've had to myself recently xD I just finished my contract on my second job so now I have a lot more time (although I will be looking for another second job / full-time job too) So really I only have a couple of projects and they are progressing as smoothly as I have set out :) Once I've read into my book a bit I should be able to make some sort of deadlines for when I want the site to be up and running based upon how much time I can commit to working on it every week.
Comment by Demi on December 27, 2011 at 4:25am Terrific, you know want to do, it's a good sign. Cheer up.
