Since I've been into on-line privacy and censorship I wanted to research the privacy policy of my ISP.

The only document I found was: privacy.pdf and some reference to Belgian law.

I now proceeded and contacted my ISP asking what kind of data they keep about me, for how long and if I can get a copy of it.

Curious if I'm going to get a straight answer from them, but I'm counting on some bureaucracy.

Might contact some other ISP's here in Belgium if all goes well and make a little comparison.

If someone has some more information or any ideas around this topic fell free to leave a message or comment.

Wish me luck and I'll try to keep you posted.

They gave me an email address and told me to ask my question there (I got the feeling this won't be the last time).

In the meanwhile I did some research concerning Belgian privacy law.

As far as my understanding goes, they are forced to tell you what data they collect and for which purpose.

I also have the right to ask a copy of all my data by making a written request accompanied with the prove of my identity.

They have 45 days to reply to that request.

My mail has been forwarded to the appropriate service (surprise, surprise).

they are probably looking for a lawyer that can confuse you so much that you never want to ask such questions again

Luckily I know a lawyer myself (always handy in tricky situations)!

Haven't had any correspondence since last Thursday.

Hoping for some news next week, going make them work for my subscription.

relevant:

Mass interception of entire populations is not only a reality, it is a secret new industry spanning 25 countries.  It sounds like something out of Hollywood, but as of today, mass interception systems, built by Western intelligence contractors, including for ’political opponents’ are a reality.

Keep us posted on how this goes. I'm very interested in seeing how much information can be kept (or is kept) about our activities online. I've always tried to take the safe approach and just assume that everything I did would be watched, but I'm curious about the concrete truth of it.

Starting to doubt whether there is an appropriate service. Looking into how I can pressure them a bit more, any suggestion/experience is welcome.
