Scientific Research & Self-Development Activism
My last blog was rather serious and long and personal and didn't get many views and didn't get any comments. Why should I continue making content on this channel when clearly no one cares? Most of the forum posts end up causing arguments not discussions and a lot of people on this site don't see themselves as self development activists but people who are already better than everyone else because they're on this site. I'd say this is resignation from this site but I actually still like the cause it was supposedly made for. I know many of the posts are about physics and philosophy and deserve to be here but everything else seems to be just random with slight hints at an association to the point of ipower. I might just got back to basics and start a tumblr or something again and just start again. My site stopped for now because I'm waiting on a new book to help me learn more about programming, scripting and other general stuff for web development. I'm moving position at my job but still on nights. Hopefully not for much longer as I want to move down to just a couple of days a week during evenings instead of nights and if not maybe I'll quit so I can put all my effort into the site for the few months before I have to move anyway when my girlfriend goes to university and I move with her. I go on holiday for the first time on Sunday. I'm going to go the gym over summer and try and get fit properly and afterwards keep it up by getting some weights and running 2 or 3 miles a day. I've decided (not sure if I'd already said this) to use money from my site (when it starts making money that is) to fund some sort of charity and once it makes enough money for me to have it as my job I'll quit and make it my job and use any extra income to fund the charity still.

Comment by Focking Original on February 20, 2012 at 10:46pm I'm really glad to hear that thanks! We learn out of every experience we have. =)
I'll add you on steam tomorrow (my pc at work, steam's always on when I'm there). My xbox and PS3 are just used for offline multiplayer (also because of the lazy 100kb/s internet connection at home). =P
But to be honest imo, game titles have lost there value more and more. Games can't entertain me any more like they used to.
Comment by SparTom007 - Tom on February 20, 2012 at 8:43pm I'm sorry that you feel that way :\
I should have said this earlier. You are one of the frequenters of the site that makes it worth coming back to, I appreciate the content you contribute and your opinons matter to me. Don't let this shit storm be yet another reason for people to avoid the site, let's just try and keep improving it together :)
Add me on steam/origin/PSN/XBL spartom007
Comment by Focking Original on February 20, 2012 at 8:42pm I took the title personal.

I don't feel that I've disrespected those who do show interest and do care... I don't care when people don't care about anything and like I said, I take criticism, give it but ultimately I decide what I do in my life. I do take things into consideration and can be swayed but not so easily as to be controlled by others but don't block it too much as to be closed-minded.
Also, I wasn't angry, I'm just disappointed in this whole site not backing the idea it was founded upon.
Also, I'm not saying that you or anyone should ever feel like they have to post. I just think if someone joined this site, they should believe in it's ideals and contribute.
Anyway I think we're getting off on a tangent. I've suggested what I think would help make this site better because ultimately, the site is part of the problem I think.
@Maikel
Thanks, I hope so too, got a call while I was on holiday last week to arrange an interview so maybe I can change to a less stressful job even if less paid. I'll try to make things a little tl;dr friendlier in future :)
@Keith
I hope I see you too man :) I do think us humans achieve more when we stick together. Let's own some life :D
Comment by Keith Runyan on February 16, 2012 at 4:16am I've noticed the same thing man and I agree with you. I think this site has so much potential that is lost up in egotism. Your goals seem awesome. Im going to be posting a lot more around here as I've set the goal to be writing a page every other day on SDA/Philosophical sorts of things. I hope to continue seeing you on here.
Some nice goals you got there. you will achieve them its just a matter of time and effort to get there but you will get there. I think the reason that ur last blog wasnt getting any response was: it was very long and kinda negative tbh. People skip that since time is precious. Short and straight to the point will get my attention and time.
Comment by Focking Original on February 12, 2012 at 11:59am It was a bit cynical.. but your complaint about our lack of participation was too.
What I meant was, respect the people who do show interest and who do care.
When they don't, you shouldn't care either. Emotional thinking is good for cause and effect within a society. But the internet is an indirect communication device. Therefor Emotional thinking, out of society (behind your PC alone), makes emotional thinking illogical and irrational. (The cause isn't because we feel more important, which made you angry in the first place. It's because most people don't know how to act upon such a harsh reality.)
I think I would have posted, if I had seen it, and if I had the time. (I had friends over from Thursday to Sunday.) But after reading this tread, nothing really gave me the urge to read that first post and help you with personal stuff. But it could be me, since I'm quiting smoking, giving me (often irrational) emotional confrontations with myself.

I understand that that happens in society and people have lives but I like to think that members of this site are better than that. I only use this site about once a week and have taken long breaks from the site but when I do choose to browse the site, I put as much effort into it as I put into the rest of my endeavours.
Yours was a rather cynical response I think :\
@Captain Morgain
Hey man, as I said to Focking Original, I understand that people are busy but the fact is I know people visit the site regularly and do nothing and it's baffling to me to be honest xD
Also, part of the reason like I said, I joined this site is for guidance. Yes I have made some strong choices and a lot of good choices, but I feel as though if I'd made a strong bad choice and blogged about it, no one would have said anything and I like to think they would... and I like to think I could listen to disagreement constructively (be open-minded as this site encourages) :)
Ah well, no one said this blog had to be about ipower all the time, I'm just expressing my feelings towards the site right now :P
Thanks for the comments guys :P
Comment by Captain Morgan on February 11, 2012 at 12:07pm SparTom, I'm sorry you feel like that man, but then again, this isn't the most active site ever, and some people don't like to read :P And to be honest, from what I've read, you don't need anyone's help. Life needs self starters, and there's not many of those. You've taken the initiative to teach yourself programming, you're working out, and truth be told that's great. And it's good that you hold the purpose of this site in high regard, just keep doing what you're doing, I'll even read more of your blogs and give insight.
Comment by Focking Original on February 10, 2012 at 12:19pm These things cost effort. We got our own lives too.
I don't feel like I'm better than anyone else. But you can't expect things from strangers.
When nobody post anything (when nobody gives a fuck), that's normal in todays society. People showing compassion and showing that they care, is rare.
