lul - the things we do to get attention, right?  :-D

Ok, so this post isn't really about necromancy; but it is related to something kinda similar.  I was having a chat on the site recently with another member and trying to explain to them what necro-posting was, and why that practice is frowned upon on many Forum sites, (like this one;) and it occurred to me that while I have occasionally expressed my discontent with the practice, I have never clarified that I actually think it is OK to do sometimes - and I even do it myself... sometimes.  It just depends.  :-)

So, when is it OK to necropost? and when do I do it?

As a few members have noticed, I'll typically do it if I see that the activity on the site has dwindled and that the "Todays Top Content" listing is getting short.  When this happens, I'll occasionally take some time to search the forums for a post or two from the past that I think didn't get enough deserved attention, and then I'll comment on them to "wake them up" and put them back into the limelight again.  Other than that, I also think it is perfectly OK for anybody to revive a good discussion if they have something new or relevant to contribute to it.  Some threads, like my Economics Help thread, are even set up with the expectation of people continually adding new information to them from time to time.  So the key words in that previous sentence are "good discussions".  Waking up stupid threads from the past {yeah, we get those sometimes} is always frowned upon; and if we see somebody doing that excessively we will usually view them as wanting to start trouble on the site by manipulating the activity listings.  That could possibly result in the unnecessary deletion of those posts, and something else {like a user account} getting "buried" in their place.  lol

In short, if the content of an old post is good, or becomes relevant again, etc. - Go for it!  but don't over-do it and end up pushing current activity into the shadows.  And if you're in doubt, go to the site's chat interface and ask a Moderator or some of the other members what they think first.  ;-)

Peace!

"Well I AM essentially talking about opinion.  Because really - that is all there is. Even if everyone on the earth agrees on something does that make it a fact or does that just mean they share the same opinion?"

"Yes I agree open-mindedness is of paramount importance. Even if you think you know all there is to know about something it pays to stay open minded about the possibility of new information on that subject coming to light."

Being right

In a sense I want to blow up the words “right” and “wrong”.  I want to banish them from my vocabulary.More specifically I do not ever wish to BE right. And I do not ever want to say to someone else “you are WRONG”. What is the purpose of being or proving oneself to be, right? And what is the purpose of proving someone else is wrong?Apart from some sort of ego based sense of satisfaction what is the purpose of these things? Can anyone give me an answer to this question? If someone says something…See More
