I struggled (and sometimes still do) to keep up the habit of reading or finishing a book which I starting reading.  I am now getting better and have built some reading routine in my life.

Provided I go to bed early enough I will read before sleeping, and provided I have enough spare time before going to work in the morning I will read before jumping in my car.

I think the main things that helped me were combining my habit of drinking coffee or tea with reading and not having too greater expectations of myself with my reading.

I really like coffee and tea and often drink one cup in the morning and a caffeine free cup in the evening.  I combined my reading with this.  It was a good way to prolong my delicious cup of tea or coffee and as the drink helped to make me feel calm and alert, the more I wanted to read.

I am also very easy on myself if I miss a night or two of reading.  Also I might only read two or three pages a day.  I'm okay with that.  I read until I have had enough, then I stop and do something else.  I like to treat reading as play (something spontaneous and just done for the hell of it), instead of treating it as work (something that I have to do or that I ought to want to do).

I use to set myself reading goals like I must read x amount of pages per night minimum.  Now I just let it happen.  Some days I can't put the book down and absolutely love reading.  On the days where I read just a few pages and want to do something else I'm more than happy to do so.  I know that I will probably have another great day (or more) of reading later in the week, or even the week after ;)
