Strawberry Fields Forever is a song by the Beatles that is very catchy but is also filled with thought provoking lyrics. It was these lyrics that inspired me to come up with the concept ‘Strawberry Fields’. Now I realise I might not be the first to come up with this idea but hey I believe in it anyway.

‘Strawberry Fields’ is the concept there is more to the world than our individual lives/world (Strawberry Field) and if we just focus on our own existence then life becomes very easy but not fulfilling, ‘Living is easy with eyes closed’. When first contemplating this idea I began to ask the question is it right to live the lives we do. E.g. we are concerned by if what we wear, how we look, if our team would win on a Saturday etc.

This thought is explored by the film fight club but my heart being a little too warm for that concept I couldn’t accept that theory. So I came up with my own, it isn’t wrong to live our lives, as superficial as they may be, as long as we appreciate them.

We all have been told before that we should and how we should appreciate our lives by the reminders shown on television and the news about war, poverty and sickness in deprived parts of the world such as Afghanistan, Ethiopia etc. However as we are all aware these reminders have now become useless and ineffective. There could be many explanations to why but I am under the impression of desensitization. Not necessarily because we are too used to these adverts and reminders but because of the media they are displayed.

The messages or adverts that try to make us think of our eternal soul are usually on television. This is the same source of media that advertises coca cola, McDonalds and self improvement plastic surgery. So we can’t really blame ourselves if we are disillusioned by what we should dissregard or take note/pay attention to on the television can we?

I am not sure how to expose the truth about the world to make us appreciate our lives but I know that television’s adverts are not the way, and I am even surer that the message is of vital importance and needs to be thought about by people smarter than me. In the meantime I will be busy trying to make sure that I appreciate my own life.

"Well I AM essentially talking about opinion.  Because really - that is all there is. Even if everyone on the earth agrees on something does that make it a fact or does that just mean they share the same opinion?"

"Yes I agree open-mindedness is of paramount importance. Even if you think you know all there is to know about something it pays to stay open minded about the possibility of new information on that subject coming to light."

Being right

In a sense I want to blow up the words “right” and “wrong”.  I want to banish them from my vocabulary.More specifically I do not ever wish to BE right. And I do not ever want to say to someone else “you are WRONG”. What is the purpose of being or proving oneself to be, right? And what is the purpose of proving someone else is wrong?Apart from some sort of ego based sense of satisfaction what is the purpose of these things? Can anyone give me an answer to this question? If someone says something…See More
